Toasters?

Does anyone reckon that different toasters can make nicer toast than other toasters?

Now common sense says they should all be more or less the same, they heat up and toast the bread, but the toast from our toaster isn’t as nice as the toast from me Ma’s toaster… and the bread we’d be using would be more or less the same.

I put some lovely soft, fresh Tesco bread in our toaster yesterday… but the toast it made was very dry throughout.

    Just wonderin?

Toasting requires radiant heat. If your toaster emits plenty of heat and not enough
light (usually talking of red spectrum light here – invisible to the eye) then you
will bake your slice instead of toast it.

Steak is also best cooked by radiant heat, but use a grill as it makes your toaster messy.

Oh, forgot to say: always slice the bread with a sharp knife and an
easy sawing action to ensure a smooth surface. A slightly thicker than
normal slice is better for toast. Rotate the bread during the toasting process
    for an even all-over tan.

I hear wot your sayin Ambassador Pete. I’m just wonderin now do I have to run some sort of parallel test to determine if toasters can actually vary.

Wot sorta toaster do you use?

Mines a Breville I think… it looks good, suits the kitchen ‘n all, but the toast ain’t great from her at all.

    Have you calibrated your toaster?

    Using the sliding control,
you should be able to see 16 different shades from pure white to black,
matching the reference graphic at the bottom of this page.

That tesco bread is crap dont use it get the bread from your local bakery it is lots better
The wife buys some of that cheap bread and I give it to the dog
It’s worth while getting a decent loaf and paying the extra
Just a pity you cant get Danny Doherty’s batch loaf down there

Agree with Cathal there. We call sliced bread “Bertie’s bread” in this
house cos we used to buy a loaf each week to feed to a pig called Bertie
    at the local farm.

I dunno Donnelly.. the Da made me up a coupla’ slices this morn with some Lidl stuff and it was grand.

The Batch stuff is nice.. but the feckin price of it eh? It’s like a fortnightly treat in the nfl-gaff.

Cheap food is part of the reason behind the “obesity epidemic”.

It also leads to “more el dosho in el arse pocketo” syndrome.

Cathal & Pete, I hope the ISPCA isn’t reading this. How cruel to be giving the poor animals cheap bread to eat.

I have a Tefal, it cost almost the same as the Tesco toaster, but it has two nice grills that automatically grab the bread when you switch it on, bringing your slice in the geometrical centre of the toasting equipment. As Pete very well advised, rotating your toast will give a more even look and give better overall results.

However, there is always the “mom’s food is the best” factor, and there is no way you could beat that.

Just in the middle of 4 slices of batch bread with 4 nice thick cut slices of bacon
and of course the toasted bacon buttie is nothing without the HP sauce
