One Stop-Digital -Hong Kong – about to purchase 5D Mark ii

Can anyone tell me more about One Stop- Digital Store? I know that it is Hong Kong based. Did any of you purchase from the store.
Their prices are very reasonable, but is the equipment genuine or could the equipment be copies of the originals?
    I am about to purchase a Canon 5D Mark ii with kit lens 24-105mm f4 L, a 70-200mm f2.8 IS USM L Lens, a speedlite 580 ii and maybe a Canon 10-22mm lens.

I emailed the store to ask about deliver details to ROI and they responded instantly to say that delivery to my door would take 2 working days but as I would be a new customer, that I should send them some ID with my order. They also said that the 5Ds are out of stock until the end of next week. One positive thing that I see about the Company is that they are good communicators.
Any information or advice would be welcome.

I bought both my Speedlight SB-800 and my 1.8f 50mm from them. I found them to be excellent value and the items are delivered quickly. You couldn’t ask for much more :D

Thanks a million for your help. Their prices are so reasonable. In Irish shops, the cost of a Canon 5D mark ii with kit lens is approx €3450. For 1k more, I would get a Canon f2.8L 70-200mm IS USM lens and a Canon speedlite 580 (ii), as well, from Onestop- Digital I just thought that it was maybe a bit too good to be true.
The Canon 10-22mm is very reasonable as well.

And if it gets stopped by customs expect to pay charges plus another 21.5% VAT

For something this big (and expensive), it’s almost guaranteed to be charged vat on the way in. Over the last six months or so, I’ve been getting charged more and more often on even the smaller packages I import via ebay.
For a 5D2 body only, £1729 is indeed a reasonable price, but when you convert to euro (€1991), then add 21% (€2409), plus whatever shipping they charge (€50 at a guess) you end up at about €2450. I bought a body-only for €2500 in Whelans in Limerick, and considering the peace of mind that brings with warranty, customs issues when travelling, and supporting local businesses, I though it was well worth buying at home.
    My $0.02,
    Dave.

Thanks a million for your comments. The 21% would make a big difference all right. One Stop – Digital do not charge for shipping of items to Eire. I will have a think about it. I already have a Canon 40D with 28-135 IS lens, a Canon 50mm f1.4 lens, a Canon 90-300mm and a Sigma 17-35mm lenses. I am trying to justify buying the Canon 5D Mark ii when I have the 40D. I am sure the the quality of the images would be far better with the 5D and it is a full frame.

Have you actually tried the 5D in comparison? Indeed the pictures are better, but by a margin a lot less than you’d expect. The benefits are the full frame CCD and slightly better blacks. So unless you have very strong reasons to spend this kind of money, from my experience, if you need full frame, strongly consider a Mk I or even a 1DsMkII.

If you expect much better performance you might be somewhat disappointed. With your budget, you may get better value from upgrading lenses.

Aye, don’t go forking out mega bucks if you think that the 5D MKII is going to make a huge impact to your photography… simply put… it won’t.

Assuming that you’re an amature then the 40D should be perfectly fine for all your requirements.

I have both… to be honest I doubt I should have even went from the 400D to the 40D never mind getting a 5D MKII.

    BTW:

The Canon 10-22 is an EF-S lens which will not work on the 5D MKI or MKII.

The 5D only accepts EF lenses and not EF-S lenses. EF-S lenses are more specific to cropped sensors.

If you want a wide angle lens for a 5D then the 16-35 L or 17-40 L are the main options you have.

Thank you all so much for your help – I may just buy the 24/105mm L and the 70-200 f2.8L IS USM lenses at first to see how I get on with them. I have used the 40D for the past year and have been delighted with it but because I wanted to upgrade to L range lenses, I thought that I would also move to a 5D mark ii.

I upgraded all the way from a 400D to a 5DMk2, and the increase in image quality was simply stunning. I’m very happy I upgraded, and only look back and feel good about the upgrade! :)

What aspect of the 40D would you want to improve? Unless you can specifically answer that, I wouldn’t change the body. I’m using L glass with the 40D and I can’t really see any upgrade path in that direction in the near future. The two lenses you mention are superb. Don’t discount the 100-400mmf4L, 100mmf2.8 Macro or the 24-70mmf2.8L either, depending on what you want to achieve.

Always buy the lenses first… by the time you can afford/need a body upgrade, the 5Dmk10 will be out with 25 Gigapixels and 1000FPS video function.

I have two 40D bodies and the quality from them is really down to the lenses I use.
Camera bodies alone wont make for a better photographer and as some people
have commented…get the good lenses first.
Last Saturday morning both myself and steelydan were out early down Wexford
way and I am telling you this as an example of getting a good lense ahead of a
different body…John has an 1D MkII and I had the 40D….we came upon a lovely
dawn scene with the rising sun into our eyes….we both set up and were both using
the Canon 70-200 f4 lense…mine has image stabiliser and Johns had’nt…he kept getting
flare in his shots and I was’nt…he changed cameras as he has a 40D as well but to no
avail…still getting flare…finally he asked could he use my (Is) lense and would you
believe it, no flare…we came to the conclusion that it was obviously the dearer
lense had better quality glass in it even though they were both Canon but mine had IS.
Get your lenses and keep the 40D.

    Noel Browne.
