Panorama Photography with Hugin

Hey All,
I got my new Manfrotto 303sph pano head and I have been trying out different software packages for stitching and creating VR’s. I just wonder if there are any people here who have tried “Hugin”.
Hugin is opensource, so like Firefox and openoffice it is built on a solid platform, and it runs on Linux, Mac, Solaris and Windows. It is an incredible piece of software with a very friendly community and i have seen samples of 360 panos made with this software and there are some incredible results, you can see the samples on the site.
I am new to this site and I have extensive experience with opensource Graphical Packages and maybe I can help if anyone needs advice on the technical aspects of the following programs:
The Gimp
Scribus
Inkscape
and of course Hugin. These packages are of course free of charge.

wirepicParticipantHi Gary,
I’ve used hugin myself and found it very good. I used it to stitch this shot vertically using 4 photos. It does take a bit of getting used to and sometimes you can get weird results. There are some good tutorials here. I tried out the tutorial for correcting perspective but was less successful than creating panoramas.
I also use the Gimp for all of my post processing. I find that any tips or tutorials for using Photoshop can usually repeated in Gimp quite easily. There are some good tutorials here. And there are also a number of scripts that can be integrated readily. Try these here.
Any specific questions you can PM me directly.
Rusty TromboneMemberCheers Fergus,
That pano photo is outstanding, I’m kinda new to panoramic photography and I’m determined to see it through with Hugin, I use the GIMP for all my post processing also, I would be ashamed to show anything that I have done so far, need to get my self sorted out with some fast primes.Cheers for the links, Would be nice to see a section dedicated to opensource and to panoramic’s

studio27Memberwow, lovely image indeed. thanks for the heads up Gary. i’ve been using autopano pro for a while but i’ll definitely give hugin a try. cheers!
bigalguitarpickerParticipantMicrosoft Ice is a useful free download. I do all my panoramics using Serif PanoramaPlus 3. I think it costs about £30, though I got it for £10 as a loyalty discount price as I have bought other Serif software. Here’s a link to an HDR Pano I made recently in Hillsborough church, 108 frames in total. HDR processed in Photomatix and stitched in PanoramaPlus 3.
