I can hardly believe how sharp this is, the eyes are great. There is a real edgy feel to this, I like that.
Great light too. Did you use some reflectors?Sinead
BlackBladeParticipantGreat photo!
lovely tone to it great composition and the subject has amazing lines absolutely brilliant imo.osheadParticipantHi Lorraine.
I like this image very much. It has a prepossessing quality to it. I definitely consider it a piece of art. With delicate soft light coming in from what I presume is a window or door, the light fall off is just right. I don’t see any evidence here for a reflector. Though the light is so soft, it’s quite hard to tell. Her eyes are beautifully strong almost forceful, though it’s not dominating the picture as is so common these days. My eyes are guided from hers, aided by her makeup, to the loftiness of her imposing hair. Makes me slightly confused by my understanding of what gravity is and makes me look again trying to comprehend the seemingly obivous. It leaves me wishing I had the foresight to capture (create) such an image.

jb7ParticipantI’m a bit confused by this one Lorraine-
I think it’s the hair, and maybe the door-
although the eyeshadow is perhaps a little more than necessary for this particular sitter…I know there’s a whole lot of structural engineering sprayed here,
but is it necessary to show all of the hair?A crop just above the door frame makes it a much more focused picture, I think…
Although we don’t always agree on crops…Lovely model, lucky girl-

Great light too. Did you use some reflectors?Cheers Sinead – Simona is stunning and is a total gem to boot – she has totally amazing eyes, I had to try bring them out ;) I didn’t use the reflector here as there was a very large window and with light reflected from the room I felt I had plenty of natural light to work with

Well thanks so much – really glad you like it – i added a little more sepia to the midtones than normal in this one just to warm it up :)

God !! David, you’re making me blush  thats such high praise – in fact I’m embarrassed to say I also wish I had the foresight to take an image such as you describe ;) I’m very pleased it has a strong impact for you – so thanks a million ;)

Woohoo :) you know there is alot of my craziness going on with this one – its quite strongly styled and I wish I could tell you a reason for why I do the things I do, but often its just the way it fits best from me when I’m working through the image – I did look at your suggested crop when I was working on it – but i felt it created a bit of a “bart simpson” hairstyle and I couldn’t reconcile myself to it :D .. Simona is so beautiful its hard to stop taking portrait of her ;) She’s from Czech Republic and based in Dublin if anyone would like to book her you can see her profile here http://www.modelmayhem.com/545324
Thanks for the feedback

ExpresbroParticipantSimply beautiful Lo..image and Model. The hair is very striking..and maybe taking more attention that it should..but it’s easy for the eyes to fall on her face again.
Love the conversion as well… see what you mean about the darker background okay.

RobMemberBeautifully lit Lorraine, and a beautiful model too…
I do like the crop, the inclusion of the gravity defying hair works just
fine for me, though the line of the door frame (if that’s what it is)
is a bit of a pity as it breaks the soft flow of shadow in the background…I never noticed the eyeshadow until Joseph mentioned it; it would seem
that the eyes in this one draw all the attention…Fabulous…
