Hi All,
Another newbe here. I’m only just starting out in photography and looking to get myself loaded onto a course soon. I’ve always had a keen interest, but never really got started until now.
Anyway, looking forward to chatting to you all and picking your brains! :)
Thanks,

shutterbugParticipantMichael McGrathParticipantHi Matt, I just joined, I’m a photog from Kilkenny, spent a dozen years 1980-1981 as Kilkenny City Writer/Photographer for the Munster Express !
Taking it easier now that I’m 62, still do portraiture/weddings, and my own favourite shooting too. ( I also worked for Oliver, Studios, High Street, Kilkenny, in my younger days when he was setting up himself, he’s fully retired now with his daughter taking over .
I’m in the midst of setting up Digital Darkroom ( nearly done, esp Film Scanning off medium format on Canon CanoScan 9900F), and setting up my B&W Darkroom again, that I started back in 1966 .
Need any help/advice, give me a shout !
I use mostly medium format film still ( Bronica SQA & Mamiya 645), also my favourite 35mm Nikon N90s ( U.S. version of the F90x ), Nikon F801, Canon & Minolta Dynax – but my favourite for ‘messing around is a good old ‘Full Metal Jacket Fujica ST605n with Zeiss lenses ( the meter is gone in it long ago but I use handheld, incident light, the old Weston Master V with Invercone ) – Metz Mecablitz flashes, never use anythng else, except Courtenay in studio ( today I have a small room in my house as a studio) , mostly portraits of my film maker cousin Gabriel Murray of Olympia Films, London & Dublin .
My place is up along by the Garda Station in Dominic Street, Kilkenny City, nice and central.
Digital, I use Fuji S2 SLR ( the one with the Nikon 80 body and lenses) , FABULOUS for colour bordering on film quality, thus a great tool of portrait and wedding photographers in digital – and of course an absolute find in a Panasonic Lumix with the equivalent of 36 – 430 mm Leica lens.
Call around anytime, and that goes for everynody here, that you’re in Kilkenny. Usually a Capuccino around…

email : PhotographerOfKilkennygmail.com, also mcgratmjtcd.ie – since I was in Trinity among the Geeks doing computer science as a mature student .( Later on in the Winter, I MAY be able to do hand-crafted B&W Blow Ups for selected friends, but bear in mind that I am semi-retired ) .
Cheers,
Michael .Michael McGrathParticipantCanon CaniScan 8800F – One of the BEST, new, compatible with Vista !
And you can get it from http://www.komplett.ie in Dublin for nearly HALF the shop price too .( Munster Express, for a dozen years from 1969 – 1981 – a fella called me a Dyslexic B****** on a Usenet Newsgroup the other day, I just figured, he’s right :-)
Cheers,
