Never sure with if these ‘new baby’ shots should go into people or members announcements sections…
Anyway the H’s have a new addition – Grace H, born 13th Aug. She has been home for a couple of weeks now and keeping us all up during the nights.
Feel free to critique, I don’t think I have quite ‘nailed’ the selective focus here, and it would be nice to get a good one before she grows up!

I like this picture, but, from your description it sounds like your not quite happy with it yourself.
Maybe a wider aperture would have gave the effect you were looking for.The good thing is, you can pretty much practice whenever you like :D

The focus is on the little hand/arm, I think I would have preferred the face??

I think allowing the focus to fall on the hand would be fine but only if it
was properly visible. A baby’s cute little digits, and wrinkly skin, make
a lovely subject but half a fist doesn’t quite cut it.Thanks to all for your comments and wishes.
I think I am in general agreement with you Pete – I quite like the shot from a framing and DoF perspective , but need more emphasis on the hand(s) to improve the shot. Also need to clone a bit of blotchyness above the mouth.
I’ll need to hurry to try again – those tiny fingers and toes don’t last too long.
