Derrynane National Park at night- MILKY WAY … new images!!
-
MadeleineCalaidoWeberParticipant
As i mentioned before, i spent some time out in the dark – actually pitch dark . But it is amazing what the human eye simply can’t see BUT IT IS THERE. Scariff Islands by Derrynane/Caherdaniel surrounded by a soft glow of the milky way and endless stars. It took a while ti figure out the right methode. I still have to work on the techniques to be able to have an A2 high quality print without noise ….
Hope you like it . 30s/3600 iso/ F4EDIT: here is a link to my new night images

You just need that HUGE torch to paint the distant islands in light :-)
Excellent image and would look great in large print
DeeMr.HParticipantballylig_boyParticipantDeeboParticipantI have a few quick questions:
– How did you know that a nebula would be here?
– Why such a high ISO?cheers, Dee
TinyMemberstunning… absolutely brilliant…
how many attempts did it take to get this?Niall
flynnyParticipantThats fantastic Madeleine.
Tell us more about how you got the shot………..Please :)5faytheParticipantHi Madeleine,
I really like the look of these.
I didn’t know shots like this were possible.
Excellent.
John.
CianMcLiamParticipantSimply stunning! Very nice job :) I would guess the high ISO is to avoid the constellations moving during the capture?
BTW there’s an excellent set of similar pics and fieldnotes from National Geographic photographer Jim Richardson here: http://ngm.nationalgeographic.com/2008/11/light-pollution/richardson-field-notes
MadeleineCalaidoWeberParticipantthank you folks ( :
Regarding your questions:Dee: i didn’t know, i saw a soft cloud there but the camera saw more than me. 3600 iso because 30 s is kind of limit before the stars become a line (moving).
Tiny: 3 – the 3rd worked excellent because the air was crystal clear.
Flynny: as i said: the methode is not difficult. set up 3600iso/f4 … / 30s AND find the righ night. My ps processing was just busy with getting read of the noise without loosing the stars and the subtil colours in the nebula cloud. also some saturation and brightening. But to be able to produce high quality XXL prints i still have to figure out some technique. for web and A4 print it is fine.
5faythe: i didn’t know until i just tried it ( :
Cian: right – 30s is the limit i think. thanks for the link. looks fantastic!
