TLR Lens, 55 or 65?
-
jessthespringerParticipant
I’ve been watching a 55 f4.5 on ebay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=140345377589&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT sale ends tonight, but now I’m wondering about the 65?
How do these compare, does anyone know?
65’s don’t seem to come up as often.
Sinead
nfl-fanParticipantBeen contemplating one too…
I’d be more inclined to go with the 55… simply for the extra width as a landscape lens.
Also given the 180 some thought… extra reach on the street.
Couldn’t tell you anything other than that.

jb7ParticipantjessthespringerParticipantThanks John,
I’m thinking the same, 55 for extra width, but, I’d be a bit concerned about distortion, but, it may not be an issue.
I some some ETRSI prints taken with a 40mm lens and the distortion, well, it wasn’t mad, but it wasn’t very pleasing either. If you know what I mean. But, that’s probably a really silly comparison to make.
180, I’m sure I saw a few of those too…
nfl-fanParticipantNo.. trust me it won’t.
I only get paid once a month, next pay day is the 23rd.
The next 5 days will be cold turkey for nfl and eBay.

nfl-fanParticipantYou might find some useful info buried in here… although at a glance it seems a bit basic:

jb7Participanta little while ago, you posted a question on distortion-
I checked out nfl’s links, and this lens is listed as a retrofocus design-
similar to the designs for 35mm lenses,
which is what I think you were enquiring about the last time-I think that it’s quite likely that it will exhibit some distortion-
though I don’t know, obviously-As you mentioned architecture recently, it might be good to do an image search on flickr,
and see if you can learn anything from pictures posted with tagged lenses-
perhaps leave a comment, asking about distortion in particular.I had thought that since there is no mirror box involved, the design might have been more symmetrical…

I did… and, I will. Thanks Joseph.
MartinParticipantThe most common focal lengths in 6×6 that people seem to use to cover the range when starting out are lenses around the 50mm,80mm and 150mm focal lengths. This is what I have for the Bronica which is 6×6
If it was me id go for the 55, you have the 80 so id get the 150 or nearest thing to it next after the 55….

jessthespringerParticipant‘ucken ebay!
It’s gone from 9.99 to £75.00 in the space of a couple of hours. I can’t watch, I’m going out with the Springer. If it’s not £silly.00, when I return, I’ll think about making a bid.
jb7ParticipantIt’s gone from 9.99 to £75.00 in the space of a couple of hours
I wouldn’t believe anything nfl says when it comes to the cut-throat world of winning on ebay…
anyway, it looks like 75 was the reserve-
jessthespringerParticipantI wouldn’t put it past him, or that other skitter either, he’s been very quiet about all this…
nfl-fanParticipantI’ll remember that you two…
Remember Lo-Fi 2…
There’ll be plenty of unflattering portraits of the pair of y’is going up on PI the next day.
