Sarah needed some new headshots,
but while she was there, I pointed the scary camera at her, and shot a Polaroid and a Fuji instant. This is the T55 neg, scanned.Shot on another hundred year old Petzval, this one a French cinema projection lens, 185mm Æ’/4.
SeoirseMemberExquisite Joseph….that Petzval is something else.
Me like it, a lot.
Lovely model too. :)
PS….I take it you just used natural daylight with a white reflector below the lens?
mgstParticipantAngelikaParticipantjb7ParticipantThanks George, Mick, Angelika-
Everything seemed to work out fine with this one,
especially since we only had a couple of minutes at the end to shoot some film-George, yes, overcast with a large reflector to the side-
Thanks again-
jessthespringerParticipantReally, really lovely.
One of those pictures that holds attention. Great tones too.Is it a tiny bit soft?
I like that. Reminds me of a portrait I saw somewhere else, by someone else,
it was a tiny bit soft too, the photographer wrote about how he was so cold when he took
it, he didn’t bother to double check the focus. He then wrote he was really pised off when
he saw the neg, he didn’t print it. Then, sometime later he did print it and was really pleased
with how it turned out. I’ll see if I can find the link for it.Sorry for rambling…
Sinead
jb7ParticipantThanks Sinead, nice of you to say so-
Yes, soft-
not a focus issue, but there is movement.
I’m not sure whether it’s subject or camera.I only took one neg, so there is a sense with these that it all has to be condensed into one shot,
and if it works, it works.
You only get one thing. And it works here, I’m pretty sure.
Thanks for all the comments-

branocParticipantjb7ParticipantThanks branoc,
appreciate you taking the time to comment,
glad you like it-Here’s the colour instant I shot, FP100c45-
Mick451ParticipantAlessiaParticipantvery beautiful pictures….. the B&W is really magical but the color one has a dreamy atmosphre I like so much….
a.jb7ParticipantThanks Mick and Alessia-
Yes, the colour film is quite high contrast-
I reckon it can handle a sbr of only about 4 stops. It shows a darker vignette, and accentuates the shadow around her eye…
I prefer the b/w too, for the pose and the attitude…
The lens is good for ladies portraits-
very sharp, but low contrast, although I have improved the contrast slightly by adding an internal baffle.
As a projector lens this wouldn’t make much difference,
but for a taking lens using all of the image circle, it becomes more important. Thanks again for the comments-
RobMemberFabulous swirl from that lens Joseph, really interesting effect…
Nicely lit, and nicely composed too. There is a little softness, though
it is flattering. I think I prefer the colour in spite of the heavier vignette…
