5faytheParticipantHi Shane,
That is probably a difficult question to answer as can be seen by
the lack of replies.I have a 20D too so have no hands on knowledge to base an answer on but
I do keep an eye on reviews, forum topics and camera club talk. The 7D is a very new camera and reviews are only at the
first impression stage.
I’d say there is a lot of heavy duty testing going on.As you probably know the 50D has had mixed reviews and I have seen and
heard comments that the 40D it replaced might have been a better camera.Preliminary reports on the 7D are very good and it would look like it has
a lot of goodies that photographers have been asking for.It will probably cost you up to €700 more than the 50D so that might
be a consideration too.In my present financial situation I would buy a new or second hand 40D which
would give me a proven camera, good upgrade from my 20D, use of my EF-S
lenses and be less heavy on my pocket. If I suddenly had an extra few hundred Euro at my disposal I would buy the 7D
which would get me the latest cropped sensor technology (Canon) available. If I won the lotto tonight it would be instant full frame and L glass.
I probably didn’t answer your question but I thought you deserved some
sort of reply.Good luck with your shopping.
Cheers.
John.
miki gParticipantHi Shane. I’m just wondering why you feel you need to upgrade? Is the 20D not capable of producing the quality of photos you need? I find that a lot (myself included) of people are technofreaks, wanting to have the latest this & that. I bought a 450D and shortly afterwards bought a 50D and to be honest, a lot of the time, I prefer the 450D. The 50D was just something I had to have. Looking at the photos I take, the money probably would have been better spent on lessons in photography or some good books. OK the features may be handy, but will you really use them enough to justify splashing out. I do find the faster frames per second on the 50D useful, but anything else, I just don’t tend to use or if I do, possibly not to it’s full potential. I know that this is not answering your question and I don’t think I’ll get a job selling cameras in the near future, but I think they are points worth considering before spending your money. Good luck on whatever you decide.

it depends on what you shoot. I use a 50D and there are some things on the 7 D I would like but I don’t see thevalue in the price differencee. there are features on the 50D that are not on the 40D that I use day in day out but I do interiors and stuff that does not move so the live view with grids comes in handy. personally I would go for the 5D or the 50D
ShanephotosMemberHey everybody thanks for you repalys and the more I think about it the more om like ok so I prob dont need it right know. thanks for all you comments
lousyParticipantMy advise, for what it’s worth is stick with what you have and enjoy.
I have a 40D and a 50D. I prefer to use the 40D. Great camera
and no need for upgrade.
