Never used the FG, I started with a Pentax from the 60s and then quickly moved to the F3, but I’ve also used the FM2 and I’d say they’re both great cameras, though i guess they require a little bit of adaption if you’re moving from a digital camera with lots of automated settings. You can find good deals for FM2s these days, last time I checked they were around 100/200 euros. Make sure you have Nikkor lenses with the aperture ring, because the newer “G” models won’t work on older cameras like FG, F3 or FM2.

(*rant* how i whish they could come up with a digital F3!)

I bought an FG about 20 years ago and only recently got it back from my father. It’s a fine camera, sturdy and has a reassuring shutter. Some nice features like a 2-stop over expose button for shooting a subject into the light or in snow scenes with all the usual manual settings. Shutter speed goes to 1/1000 sec, with Bulb mode also. I’ve a 100mm f2.8 & a 135mm f2.8 which are both light and sharp and served me well. With an internal LED light meter this camera would be recommended. Plus they can be got quite cheap on Ebay.
