There are a couple of things that I think would improve this shot.
A 4×5 crop that chopped off a bit of the top and right, with the tower corner centered, would balance things a bit more and remove the chimney which I find distracting.

Even though you have 2 beautiful blues in the shot, the sky and water, and also golden light, I would consider a conversion to b&w.
The 2 bits of artifical blue (railing and boat cover?) are distracting, taking away from the mood, imho.
Selectively changing the colour of these parts could also be done, but b&w does suit castles.

I guess selectively sharpening the stone (with a layer mask) might bring out a bit more detail, but this could easily look dodgy.

It is a beautiful sence you captured, thats my suggestion, I hope it helps.

PS you might have some sensor dust in the top right.

    Excellent CC by Martin.
I agree that a BW conversion and the crop would work better.
Its hard to get a new angle on this place, each time I go I visit the same location and shot the same scene. Looks like you got in a bit further which has helped.

    For me that’s much better.
At the risk of sounding like someone who is never happy, …
I think you should have left a bit more at the bottom beyond the shadow, about half as much as the space at the top. So the main subject, castle+reflection, is nicely framed.
Also there is noticeable processing side effects like a halo line to the left of the castle tower and posterisation in the water at the bottom (that could just be my screen).
There might be some processing step, that is causing this, which could be reduced.

But still I like what you have done here.

    John,
Prefer the B&W conversion. As Dee said it is difficult to get a new angle. God I hate the place

Thanks for looking Carl. Sorry about the u-14’s losing their all county final and the hurlers also
Talk about the curse of Biddie Earley! St Enda’s will get there soon. Hope the u-12’s win their final.

I like the colour version though the blues and reds are a bit over-powering. I was a bit surprised at how intrusive Kilroot Power Station looks in the background, you’d think it was right beside the castle, not a couple of miles up the coast. I heard on the radio recently that the chimney is the tallest brick built structure in Northern Ireland. The scene is much improved with the power station cropped out.

Thanks Alex, yes it is amazing how the 70-200 lens pulls the power station in. I like the colour also ,must
    apply the same crop…………John!

John, think I prefer the colour version too, wish they would do something with that chimney it gets in nearly every shot round here. Lovely sky and the light is sort of lost in the B&W version.
