This is cooool. I really like the composition & the matching colour in the background and especially how the lighting strikes the flower. The two leaves (if that’s what you call them) crossing over each other are slightly offputting but nature doesn’t tend to put things exactly the way we would like them so that’s ok. Well done
jb7ParticipantGood one, like the colour-
well selected specimen too-
The only thing that I can mention might be the position of the stem coming in from the side in such an otherwise symmetrical picture,
but it’s a minor thing-Good light-
PippateeMemberThanks Miki … it was the specimen that inspired this shot … I was only home from work and had not intended to do anything but sit on the couch with Tubridy for company … the bouquet this came from is a few days old an this beauty just smiled up at me .. lucky me eh?
Joseph …
I did consider other shots which were more symmetrical, but the imbalance in this added a little interest …
thanks for the feedback….really much appreciated…

5faytheParticipantHi Philip,
My initial though when I looked at this first was that I didn’t like
the similarly coloured background but I wasn’t sure.
On subsequent viewings and, of course, reading other replies
I’m leaning towards thinking the background is just right.I have tried to imagine other colours and can’t imagine a better one.
So my question.
Did you consider or try other backgrounds or just know that this was right?Cheers.
John.

Thanks John,
to be honest, this was already sitting against the wall when I spotted it, so I didn’t even consider other backgrounds,
I do have a home-made softbox and black and white card, so it would have been easy enough to do, but I was happy with the colour…
It’s funny….I’d never consider this colour background only I stumbled upon it !
5faytheParticipantHi Philip,
Thanks for the reply.
And very remiss of me.
I neglected to say that I really like the image.Well done.

He he …thanks again John….
JMac-2006ParticipantHi Philip
I like this – great job lighting the flower to stand out on the similarly coloured background – the stem i like the way it is as the flower itself seems to bend/curve back that way so the flower and stem mirror each other
Alan RossiterParticipantI missed this earlier…don’t know how but it might have been down to a temperamental wireless dongle tripping out and leaving the “view posts since last visit” empty.
I like the synergy between the flower colour and the wall…genius apart from the fact that you say it was accidental!!! The simplicity if the composition stands out as the key holding element in this one to me and I feel, as trivial as it may seem, the crossover of leaves does taint in a little. However it’s a very nice image worthy of going to the effort…even if it was an unconscious action.
Alan.
PippateeMemberThanks Alan …
accidental as it was … this is one of my favorite shots of my year so far … the crossover of the leaves, although distracting, is actually one of my favourite parts of the shot…everthing else was quite controlled (lighting, colours, composition) but the imperfection of the natural set of the leaves really worked for me …Mind you … the judge who looked at it in the monthly compertition in my camera club …. slated it …
ah well …
thanks for revisiting this post and taking the time to comment …

RobMemberBeautiful picture Philip…
A happy accident indeed, that blend of colour with background and subject.
Like yourself, I’m quite taken with those crossed leaves at the front of the
flower…I also like the angle of the stem. If there was another inch of it showing
at the bottom I’d imagine it would be curving back towards centre. It’s almost
a pity it’s out of frame…SodafarlMemberPhil, Brilliant shot love everything about it.
Better than Turbidy :lol:Soda
Broadford1ParticipantPippateeMemberThanks all …
I have printed this and it’s now hanging on the wall …the same one that I used as the background here !!
