new lens choices

Im thinking of getting a new lens that covers a larger focal range, still a rookie too at photography! I currently have a D90 with standard 18-105mm vr lens and a 35mm f1.8 prime lens. so there is 3 lenses i have my eye on:
1.Sigma 18-200 OS ( great for walk around lens, not too heavy, would cover most situations, lacking good performance in low light i feel)
http://www.adorama.com/SG18200SNK.html2. nikon 70-300 vr( not ideal for close up indoor photgraphy, should be good enough for outdoor use, again thinking it wouldn’t be the greatest in low light.

Seems like a great lens, good in low light, faster than other 2 and sharper however heavy and lacking image stabilisation.should i jump straight in for the Sigma 70-200 or start off with the 18-200?
damien.murphyParticipantlegacydanParticipantjust looking for something more than 105mm, sometimes i find i just cant get close enough to the action. i think since my first post that the 18-2200 sigma may not be much of an improvement over the 18-105 i have now so that narrows it down to the sigma 70-200 or Nikon 70-300
DeeboParticipantI have a Nikor 55-200, got it for under £200 and it has VR. Not the greatest in low light but in daylight hours it more than good and pin sharp
Depends what you need the reach for i suppose and what you have to spend.
DeelegacydanParticipanti had the 55-200 with my d60 but dropped it and cracked the lens! had a look at the 70-300 nikon and 70-200 Sigma f2,8 today in camera centre, i didnt realise the Sigma was so big, i think for the extra reach, portability, VR and price the Nikon is the one for me :)
legacydanParticipantordered the Nikon 70-300VR, should have it tomorrow so! need to get a new camera bag now to fit it!

Enjoy! It’s a nice lens. Dark, but good. VR works great too.
I had one, but it wasn’t used much, so it has a new happy owner now.BallymanParticipantlegacydan wrote:

Most 2.8 lenses are pretty big.
Unless you are going to be shooting in bad light and need high shutter speeds then there is no need for you to have f2.8
