Heading to Westport shortly for a long weekend and would be glad of any recommendations on places of interest to get a few pics while I’m there….:?:

Also any good pubs and restaurants :?: :?:

Walk up the route to the summit of Croagh Patrick just as far as you feel like. The views to the North over the bay get better and better the higher you go. Normal mountain precautions apply if you are going beyond the first little bit.

Just take the road to Clifden…If you stop to take photographs of everything of interest on this route you’d better plan to be there for about a week..it’s stunning.

    Steve,

I asked a guy here in work who is from Westport about food/drink.

    Food:
Bella Vita – Italian near the clock. Very good but you’d need to book.
Most pubs/places out on the quay are good.
The Quay Cottage and the Ardmore (more formal) would be the best on the quay.

    Drink:
    McGings (near the clock)
Morans on Bridge St (main street below the clock)
Morans – nice small old pub
(Matt) Molloys (across from Moran) – of the Chieftans fame
    Gerathys – at the octagon
Tobys – on the Fair Green at one end of the Mall river

plenty to keep the budding photographer happy.. hope you have an understanding wife as it will be very difficult to put the camera down, and you’ll be making photo stops every mile or so. Agree with wonka on the road south to leenan, killary harbour and beyond. try nipping up to delphi, stop off at aasleagh falls, then on towards clifden if you get time.

….you’re gonna need some more memory cards.

Might need to be a VERY long weekend – you could also add a trip to Achill to that list.

No doubt that the views of the national park are amazing. I still intend to arrange a PI trip there – perhaps next spring …

Forget about achill I thought it was very dissapointing but do climb up crough patrick. Its beautifull and you feel good afterwards. But if you do bring something to carry your tripot overtyour shoulder on your back because its not nice to have that in your hands all the time, especially down hill. and yes the road to clifden is one long photo opportunity

but most of all have fun.

I drove up the land side of Achill sound from the south last year and was disappointed, I was expecting a remote place but there were houses everywhere.

Granted I was not on the island itself, perhaps it’s different there.
