Adorama.com for Tokina 12-24mm

Hi,
Looking at purchasing a wide angle for my Nikon D40 after I lost my kit lens to a bog-pool at the bottom of Lugnaquilla. Thinking of going for the Tokina 12-24mm and after some research, looks like the best value is at adorama.com.

Anyone any experience of using this company, I have used Keaphoto before but prices look to have gone up recently.
Cheers,
PaulPiotr MMemberGood resolution. Robust piece of optics.
In minus:
-High CA,
-Poor performance at scenes with a light source or reflected light (loss of contrast).SheldonParticipantcrampParticipantI use them all the time, but I rarely get stuff shipped to Ireland,
You will probably have to pay VAT and Duty if you get it sent to ireland.
Also worth checking out the warranty situation

flynnyParticipantI’ve used Adorama in the past,
There fine to deal with,
Efficient and reliable,
BUT ,if you get somthing shipped from the US by Adorama, you will get charged VAT and Duty.
Twice I went through this and I know a few lads I work with had the same experience.stcstcMemberPadraigParticipantBought a manfrotto 055xPROB tripod from them. Got caught for 70 euro duty
damien.murphyParticipantJust an fyi, Paul – the Tokina will need an inbuilt motor to autofocus on your D40,

Thanks all for the feedback.
Damien, I have a D50 so should be ok.. In light of the info on the duty, I’m pricing around to see where’s best to buy!
damien.murphyParticipantA cracking lens Paul, no doubt. You used to be able to get this for about €450 in Dublin, if you shopped around, a bit of a premium over buying it online, but the peace of mind and service of dealing with a local dealer is often worth it.
Given this lens doesn’t have an onboard motor (which can be prone to failure on occasion), and is pretty well built, I would have no compunction to looking to the 2nd hand market if you can get a good price on one,

SheldonParticipantdamien.murphyParticipantThat’s a cracking price Sheldon – you’d have a sale here, was I not moving from digital to film :)
