Shimna River, Tollymore Co Down
-
Gary McParlandParticipant
Went back to Tollymore today as i had a day off work. It was wet and raining but i persevered.
Took this standing in the middle of the river in full flow, a great test for my new sealskin waterproof socks & they passed ;)
thanks for looking :)Gary
Mark NParticipantGary
Great shot. The leaves on that big rock are a nice splash of colour.
I wouldn’t have fancied standing in a river with all this rain recently. How did you manage to keep the sky from being overexposed.
Mark
Gary McParlandParticipantHi Mark, thanks for your reply :)
I was using an ND grad but i was still having problems so i shot 3 exposures and this is a blend of two of them.
Rgds
GaryMark NParticipantI’d love to hear how you blended the 2 photos cause I spend a lot of time trying to do this but not with the results you’ve achieved here.
Mark
MadeleineCalaidoWeberParticipantHi Gary another very beautiful image of your series. the stone is beautifully important and fullfills its job very good. The blending made it a bit dull but i don’t know if it was a dull day? you never know with nature. Yes forests are a nightmare with getting back the sky – i fully agree ( ; cheers Madeleine
DaveMurdochParticipantRASMITH32MemberRASMITH32MemberGary I am a big fan of these sort fo pics but struggle to maintain sharpness of objects outside the moving water when using long exposures, I have tried everything from mirror lock up , to using ND filters, to disabling the IS, to using remote shutter functions BUT still struggle!!!
You have very obviously mastered the technique!, any tips would be much appreciated

5faytheParticipantHi Gary,
This is very nice.
Good composition, control of the water flow, lovely
splashes of colour and even light across the frame.Well done.
John.
BMParticipantGary McParlandParticipantThanks for the comments everyone :)
Hi RAS, there was nothing special going on, just a tripod with a shutter release cable. Polariser to cut down reflections on the stones and an ND grad to try and hold back the bit of sky. The light was getting low so i didnt need to add an ND to get the long exposure.

GaryBroadford1ParticipantaoluainParticipantVery nice Gary,
Beautiful subdued colours and wonderful mood too.
You got some love light ther on the trunk of the tree
and the composition is very good with not too much of this of that.nice balance for me.
well done
