Hi, my original of this is pretty drab and boring:

so I tried ‘improving’ it — I don’t usually do this heavy-handed processing, but
there seemed otherwise nothing to do with the pic:

    what do you think? Comments?

hi Robt, I’d crop this pic and center the stones as they are neither centered nor to the right if you know what i mean, I’d also clone out the sign to the back of the pic

I find the setting selected for this photograph doesn’t add any great composition – in particular the trees are distracting and the line of the hedge leads into that distraction.

This might also be because one expects to see Dolmen’s more remote and unadorned.

Other than the vignetting, I think that the second is a big improvement.

Just to echo BM the very neat hedge makes a setting that is at odds with the imagined landscape that an ancient monument should occupy (well thats what i think anyway if it counts for anything :P)

A lower vantage point with more sky would be more timeless? possibly

    Thanks for the feedback;

RAS: I tried cloning out the sign, but it didn’t work for me

BM,Pitmatic: the dolmen now lies at the edge of the golf course at Ballymascanlon; previously, it was more open
pix from a few years ago don’t show the trees or the hedge to their present day extent.

I think that a lower viewpoint, wider angle lens, and positioned a bit to the left as we look at it would help the composition
    — concentrating on the dolmen and trying to exclude the modern surroundings.

I like it a bit more detail in the tree in the righthand side would be great and clone out the sign.
try replacing the sky if your not happy with it in ps well done

Thanks Andy77; the tree has got lost in the vignette — and my attempts at removing the sign were yuk!

Another visit, more carefully, I think.

HI RC, This is what I ended up with after playing around with in PShop…

RAS, I presume this is from the original?
It looks a lot better than my effort.
The concrete at back right still annoys me —
next time, a few inches/feet to the right and lower.
    Well done!

The right hand rear column is reinforced.
The stones on top are chucked up by those who believe that doing so means they will
    marry within a year :o

There’s an even worse one here:

Aha, I see what you mean now. I actually like that, so much so that I sharpened it to make it more pronounced in the picture, applied the same to the stones on top
