So, I risked introducing some confusion to Alesia’s thread about the Dublin pub meet-up …
My thinking was that perhaps those of us from the North that can’t make it to Dublin could so something in Belfast …
Either the same day as the Dublin event or on a different day to allow people to attend both.
Any thoughts/preferences/ideas?
miki gParticipantBMParticipantWe could meet at teh border – and see if we could get a grant from one of the peace/north-south bodies …
jb7ParticipantBMParticipantAlessiaParticipantwhat’s Jonesboro?????
the idea of the DublintoBelfast pub crawl is great…. maybe not healthy…but GREAT!

It’s a market in South Armagh, usually on a Sunday. Sells everything, DVD’s, Perfume, Tools, Fags, Booze, Caterpillar Boots, Adobe PS, etc…
It would have had it’s hey day in the 80’s & 90’s when ‘goods’ would have been smuggled across the border, it would have been a hub of activity,
shopping in the market, fill the car up with red diesel and soup and sandwiches in the Carrickdale hotel. Or pints of Stout in the Lumpers pub,
not for me though, I’d have been too young for stout… A bottle of coke, with a straw and Tayto (the freestate Tayto) Cheese & Onion crisps,
were the order of the day for the kids :)There would be reasonable question of the authenticity of the goods on sale, and perhaps in some cases, the origin. Allegedly.
Actually, I’m not sure that it’s still on. Was the kind of place that might get raided by the customs every second Sunday.
Great place for meeting characters, had a very, very funny conversation with a young lad from Fermanagh last time I was there,
next time I see you, I’ll tell you all about it…A day out in Belfast would be good alright Brian, but maybe not the same day as Dublin.
Whatever happened to Gigi’s Urban Safari???Sinead
jb7ParticipantGood review Sinead-
brings it all back-Though it’s a long time since I’ve been there.
To give you some sort of an idea,
the last thing I bought there was a record player,
which was brought back on an Unapproved Road…5faytheParticipantAlessia wrote:

I have never been to Jonesbro but it was a legend around our
area when I was growing up.
Spoken of in hushed and conspiratorial tones.
I wonder would it have been a good place for some street photography? :?
I guess maybe not.All this talk of meets in Dublin and even Belfast are so tempting.
Would mean nay necessitate taking Monday off.
Aah work the curse of …………. :cry:John.
BMParticipantI know Jonesboro very well. My mum grew up there and we used to visit my granny regularly.
I actually remember Jonesboro before the Sunday markets!
Good summary Sinead.
Good spot for a meet?
AlessiaParticipantmmmm this place seems interesting, I think it could be good for some street photography John, indeed and I’d like to see it. It seems kind of misterious and intriguing…. :)
