Depending on what you want to do with them it might be a good idea to convert them to jpeg all right.
You need to use a raw converter to make the jpeg files. If you don’t have one try downloading Picasa, it can handle most types of raw files. You can get it at http://picasa.google.com.

RAW files are much larger than Jpegs and I really only use them when needed in the post processing stage. Once you are happy with the images, convert them (ie save as a Jpeg), They won’t lose any detail, but the file size will be a lot smaller. Your camera may save both file types of the same shot if set up to do so.
