Hi Rossco, I am not by any means an authority on people pics and would not
normally comment on them, but I kept going back to look at the earlier shots and
these, I like the Graffiti the colours are great even the rubbish looks good in the
second shot, but cant help feeling it would look better without the model, the pose
is awkward and mostly the same in all of the shots. The first shot has a great Graffiti pic of the woman posing would have been good
to see the model echo the pose maybe. The lighting and colour look good (to me
anyway) and if that was your exercise then great, but the actual photographs dont
appeal…………just a personal opinion no offence meant.shutterbugParticipantAm I dreaming or did I see three other similar shots? Cant find them now,
I think I am losing it :)jb7ParticipantI’d have to echo the comments in Jenny’s two posts-
I’m sure I saw some other pictures too-
wonderful colour, more formal in setting and presentation…I’m not so sure I can comment on these photographically,
unless it’s to do with the pose-
it does rather look like the model is copying something she saw in a magazine-
It’s unlikely that you would have had any control over the stylist,
but you have to work with what you’re given, I suppose-
Though it wouldn’t be the first time I’ve been accused of being a fuddy-duddy-I don’t know if you’re trying to introduce some playful symbolism with the background,
or how it came about that she’s standing there,
but I’m not sure that all the elements gel…
though there is a crop I was looking at in the second, just below the tyre-All the technical bits are fine, as usual, but maybe we’ve gone beyond commenting on those-
miki gParticipantHi Rossco. Nice girl and interesting location. I wouldn’t be a people expert either, but I think these are more like fashion shots than people shots. The pose would be fairly typical for a fashion type shoot, as would the background be in the street catagory and I think the problem here is that they are too confusing to the eye as there is too much colour and detail in them.
I think this is a case of “less is more”. Fewer conflicting colours and a closer, simpler arrangement would work better for me. I also saw the other pics and thought at the time, that all the poses seemed to be the same generally and a little awkward. I agree with Jenny about the use of the graffitti of the girl posing as a mirrored pose. The chair or tyre could also be used as props for different poses. As was mentioned, technically these are fine, I just feel that simpler shots (perhaps isolating the model from the background) would work better. Not Pete the blokeParticipantThanks for the feedback, yes I think they are probably more ‘fashion’ than people. It was mainly an exercise in testing a new elinchrom quadra lighting set up – which I am glad to say worked perfectly. The built in skyport receiver worked a treat. I arranged a model at short notice and just went to this location to start off with, and was really concentrating on the performance of the equipment than worrying about what the final picture was all about.
Having said that, I did get some results which pleased me.MuhozolParticipantGreat shots, love the surroundings, second one too tight for me these fabulous legs need more space bottom of pic. Well done!
BMParticipantI would have preferred if there was more showing of the girl in the graffiti and the model was mimicking that pose … or would that be a bit obvious? – my eye keeps wandering off to the graffiti.
Not Pete the blokeParticipantI suppose she is sort of mimicking the gilr in the graffiti in this one:
