VirtualVisit – IRELAND (2010 Project) | Photographers Wanted

Virtual Visit, a Northern Ireland based Destination Marketing Organisation, is seeking Photographers to work on an ALL IRELAND Special Tourism Project during Spring/Summer 2010.
Our beta website, http://www.virtualvisit-northernireland.com, launched in December 2008 has become a great success and exceeded expectations.
We cover Accommodation, Bars, Restaurants and Visitor Attractions in High Definition Virtual Tours (Immersive Photographs as I prefer to call them), allowing the visitor to literally ‘Get in the Picture’ to see and experience what the photographer did.
With the success of the award winning Northern Ireland portal we are launching the VitualVisit-IRELAND Project in Spring 2010 covering the Island of Ireland.
To this end we are initially seeking to involve TWO Photographers in the Dublin area and ONE possibly TWO to cover Cork and then up to 24 more to cover the remaining Counties.
If you are interested in joining and being involved in the project, please register an Expression of Interest to photographersvirtualvisit-ireland.com where more information will be provided.
ALL photographers joining the Project will receive their own equipment (yours to keep!) and earn an initial content generating salary dependant on the number of locations/properties captured over the Project Timeline.
FULL training and ‘know-how’ will be provided on our workflow and immersive imaging techniques potentially allowing you an additional string to your bow.
If you have some spare time over Spring/Summer 2010, are keen to learn a new skill, would like to supplement your existing income and not to mention being part of something quite unique then register your interest now at photographersvirtualvisit-ireland.com.
Many thanks.

damiendParticipantjoeyvwParticipantyes got an email from them today, sound like a very promising project, however there is a one of fee of €2700 for training and equiptment (which you get to keep) and you get paid for the pics you take
damiendParticipant26 photographers looking to just make back their investment, plus another €2700 thats € 5400 x 26 some serious turnover of cash in this downturn
ALL photographers joining the Project will receive their own equipment (yours to keep!)
should be BUY their own equipment

Wow… free equipment… I’m in, I’m in.
there is a one of fee of €2700 for training and equiptment (which you get to keep)
Doh… €2700 fee… I’m out, I’m out.
jb7Participant2700 sounds a lot for a p&s and a hemispherical mirror on a stick…
If I’m wrong, perhaps someone from the company will come back here and explain why-
in addition to a comment on the misleading sales spiel that has already been remarked upon…(yours to keep!)
how generous…
brianmaclParticipantI think to do 360s properly you need a good tripod, pano head, desent dSLR, wide angle lense, and at least thre types of software but probably 4 types including exposure blending stitching and PS…. if that is all given for 2700 then it could be worth it. but if people are using p&s cameras and cheaplenses the 360’s will look cheap and tacky and will have exposure issues. Most of all, they will give a bad impression of our country to potential visiters.
bigalguitarpickerParticipantThe 360s on the website look OK. I suppose to achieve consistency, all their operatives would need to be using the same kit. For 2700 you’re getting a set of kit plus tuition in using it. I couldn’t imagine there being full-time work in it, one man per county probably would be all that’s needed, so you spend 2700, get your kit, shoot part-time till it all dies a death and end up with the kit and hopefully a bit of profit. I think it would be like being a photographer for Pixie-pics, no money worth talking about, but OK for a kid living at home with their parents and game for a laugh.
tomtomtooMemberHi
Thought I should chip in here.
The response from potential VirtualVisit Photographers has been fantastic and we are very excited about moving forward with the project. Thank you to ALL that have expressed an interest so far. Further information has been mailed to you and I can see a snippet of it, the fee for training and equipment, has ended up here.

Apologies if the OP was mis-leading for you, it wasn’t intended to be…after all ‘there are no free dinners’.
Yes, those photographers who expressed an interest in the Project will have seen a sign up fee of 2,700 EUR. Apart from covering Equipment and Training it essentially boils down to one thing. Intellectual Property (IP).
What was meant is that as Virtual Visit Photographers, who will be sub-contracted out to take VR’s for us, the equipment is yours to keep.
If the role was flipped and we directly employed our photographers then ALL equipment and IP remains with the company and the photographer would not be free to use the skills imparted outside of the company.
By sub-contracting this way, the photographers that we train are free to commit as much or as little time to Virtual Visit work PLUS have the additional benefit of taking the IP we impart and use it for their own commercial gain outside of the Virtual Visit remit.
What is missing from these posts is that our VR Photographers will be paid half of the sign up fee back during a content generation phase. Post content generation phase our VR Photographers invoice on a monthly basis for work completed. ALL payments are made in Sterling and converted to Euros at the time of payment.
jb7. We DO NOT use
a p&s and a hemispherical mirror on a stick…
The results would not pass our Quality Control.

Whole heartedly agree!
We use professional equipment which is extremely portable and light weight providing streamlined workflow to generate high quality VR’s in as short a time as possible.
Without going into too much detail, the equipment we use and that our photographers get is;• Canon DSLR. Not a top of the range modal (10MP) as our work is for the web and therefore 72dpi.
• Top end Sigma Wide Angle Lens
• Nodal Ninja pano heads
• Manfroto tripods
We have built good relationships with panoramic photography dealers and can therefore avail of discount on ALL our VR Equipment which we pass on to our photographers. If an individual photographer were to go out and buy what we use off the shelf the cost for equipment alone would be approaching 2,000 EUR
I hate long posts!
To those photographers who have expressed an interest and are keen to join the community of Virtual Visit VR Photographers I look forward to meeting with you early in the New Year. If you have any questions on the Project please contact me privately. Many thanks.

brianmaclParticipantif you have all this kit already do you still have to fork out the cash?
canon d50
manfrotto tripod
10-20mm lens
all the required software including photomatixdo you exposure blend as well? I find that it really helps with the look of the windows since you tend not to use lighting.
I may be interested in covering the greater Dublin area
personally I would suggest that 360s are great when done right (often they are not), but video seems to be the way forward for property related marketing. It is not great for targeting Irish clients but is well used in the US, Australia…. our broadband is too slow.

Could you explain this a bit further. The implication is that any skill you learn as an employee (of any employer) cannot be used except for that employer. I don’t believe this can actually be correct.

Just to note that 72DPI is a meaningless value in this context (web usage).
Mick451ParticipantTagMemberAny job that involves having to pay for training and kit up front doesn’t sound like a good idea to me… It sounds as though Mr McVea will be using 26 people to fund his new business project in the South.
As for IP… if you take a look at http://ivrpa.org/ you’ll notice a lot… including Thomas McVea…
AshleyParticipantHi Thomas
What does ‘content generating salary‘ or ‘content generation phase‘ actually mean ?tomtomtoo wrote:

Plus is there any limit to the number of photographers who you will actually be signing up to this ?
Because it would appear, is this just the minimum you are initially seeking to involve…tomtomtoo wrote:

And lastly, does this mean it’s 100% freelance work then – as opposed to actual commissioned work – where there would need to be a commitment by all 3 (You, The client and the Photographer) parties involved.
tomtomtoo wrote:.. the photographers that we train are free to commit as much or as little time to Virtual Visit work ..
It’s just, it does sound like it could be a very expense dinner for those photographers who expressed an interest in the Project, if the above is the case…
