From the Lubitel 2, with some very expired Fuji Superia 100
These were taken at Dalkey, which is a lovely place. Spent a very nice afternoon there, watching the sea life and the few gnarly swimmers.Colours haven’t been fiddled with, these are pretty much straight scans.
And, some expired E100 G for this one, a bit of dohickey here, not much to the colour though, just the added layer.

thefizzParticipantThese are great Sinead, they are so calm and peaceful. You are doing great with your Lubi.
But whats the reflection of text in the last one?jessthespringerParticipantThanks Peter, I’m really enjoying using this camera. Thanks again to Fintan for passing it on.
One thing though, if I use a cable release with it, it sticks and doesn’t release. Any suggestions?
There is a texture layer on the third, not everyones cup of tea.

jb7ParticipantIt does look a bit like you’ve got a problem with your new scanner,
but I’m just being cruel saying so…convert those to b&w, and you’d have a couple of Sugimotos…
You should try the Silverfast, did you get the IT8 calibration targets with it?
There was a time that the silverfast software was only bundled with the V750,
does it come with the V700 now?Have you tried re-scanning any of your colour negs yet?
would be interesting to see the differences between the shop scans and your own-
Silverfast has colour negative presets for different types of neg film, quite useful-aoluainParticipantLove the colours in the first SInead.
B+W might be nice too!
I have come accross some mentiones of silverfast,
is it a lot better than the standard epsom scanning
tool like with the v500?I have noticed myself that I just cannot get scans
as good as the shop ones I was getting before I
got the V500, I have ordered the variable height
holder from BETTERSCANNING hopefully this will
make a hugh difference.Love the Lubitel meself, although mine is wrecked!
jessthespringerParticipantI know there are some marks Joseph, I think maybe it came from the processing. These scans were done in a lab, before I got the 700, so hopefully I don’t have a problem with my scanner!
Maybe I’ll try scanning them myself, to see if there is any difference.Yep, SilverFast came with it, haven’t had a chance to install it yet. The little bit of reading I’ve been doing in other places suggests most prefer the Epson software. There is a lot of talk about VueScan too. Have you tried that?
Haven’t tried a conversion, but, if I scan them again, I’ll give it a go.
Thanks.
Alan – Cheers.
Were your holders expensive? I’m totally skint now!! I’ve heard they do make a big difference though.
I’ve also heard of one person who made a film holder from mount board, but he didn’t say how he did it.The Lubitel is great. So light to carry around compared to the Mamiya.
Sinead
aoluainParticipantabsolutely the lubitel’s are really light!
the holder for 4 frames with ‘anti newton-ring glass’
was $95.00. i had the bobs and could have bought another back
or possibly a lens for the mamiya645 but thought better to get
the scanning right first!aoluainParticipantthefizzParticipantjessthespringer wrote:

I don’t think I have ever used a cable release on my Lubi so not sure what your problem is.
RobMemberThese are great Sinead, though I have to say I wouldn’t be too
gone on the texture layer in the last. I love the muted colouring
you’re getting from the expired film…MartinOCParticipantThese are beuatiful Sinead, I love them.
Except for the texture, I’m one of those funny folk who doesn’t get it.I got vuescan a while back but I haven’t figured it out yet, it gives me better colours than the epson software but less detail – I’m doing something wrong. Someone posted vuescan tutorial info on here recently so I’ll have to retry it.
I bought a cheapy cable for my Lubitel and it used to stay closed. There is a lock on the cable for long exposures and it can get stuck on when you don’t want it too.
Martin
jessthespringerParticipantRob, Martin… Thanks very much for the comments.
Actually, I’m not so fussed on the texture on this one myself, was just having a go. That 100G is a fab film, really lovely colour without being over saturated.
I like the muted colours too, and the strange shifts, it was a surprise as most of the expired stuff I’ve used so far didn’t seem any different.I know about the wee lock thingy, it wasn’t that though, it was like it was just stuck… Might have been the cold, it was freezing that day, must have another play around with it all.
