Couldn’t help but notice this lady feeding the pigeons in Milan not so long ago….She was attracting a bit of a crowd…

    Hi Daithi,

Great shot. Love the depth of field and the red colours make the main subject pop even more!

What were your setting, what lens? Background is really smooth, did you do any processing?

It’s a very effective image – striking. The isolation you’ve created really works well. I think your post processing blur might be a little tighter particularly around the pigeons to the bottom right…it sort of gives the game away a little.

Thats a wonderful shot, it really is.

I agree though with the comment on post-processing blur. My guess is that an image like this would not need processing, would be strong enough to stand up on its own right. Its about the woman and what she is doing, not how red her cape is.

    Thanks for the feedback gents.

Stephen – I used a 70-200mm lens and shot this through a crowd at f2.8 I cropped the edges a little as I had managed to clip the hands of some passersby. I was happy with the bokeh/blur after the shot was taken but the background was still a little distracting so I added some Gaussian blur in photoshop.

I agree with both Alan and Liam’s points on the post processing and think I have probably gone too far on this. I am going to re-do the processing on the version of this image that’s on my website. It was good to get all of your feedback.

    Thanks again lads.

    Do, it’ll be worth it.

What a gem of a shot, I was about to put up a post because I wouldn’t bother following links for images and there it was, love this one, would love to see the backround slightly more blurred, but wont complain. well done.

    Thanks Red fox –

I had applied extra Gaussian blurr through ps but went over board a bit to the point that it looked a bit fake overall. This is more or less straight off the camera..
