a few months ago i started a college project to tell a three story narrative based on a ‘sense of place’. instantly these three images came to mind, as they were sitting in a box at home, having been taken a few years ago. the negs again ,like the Reek photos are long lost so i was wasn’t able to cheat and simply use these as my project
these were taken almost without any thought, as is the case with most of my pictures, i’m very much a spontaneous photographer, but looking at them with a project in mind, they became much more meaningful. one of the more basic, and my favourite meanings is that i was taking photographs of the very things my parents spent 20 years shouting at me for hitting with the ‘damn football’, ie. the washing, the rose bushes and the glasshouse in the garden, seen here as the view from my childhood bedroom. i must have broken 50 panes of glass in that thing over the years, that’s what he gets for leaving it in the middle of my football pitch!

Love the idea here, think we all remember these type of long gone memories.

I like the top one, and it”s a rather fitting title…
The field would have been a lonely place to play, compared to performing in front of this Corporate Box-

I don’t suppose you ever shouted back
“don’t have kids if you want to grow roses”?

I’d imagine that greenhouse would have a magnetic quality alright…

thanks folks, yup terrible place for a glasshouse, the football did seem to unnaturally attracted to it.

I love them, esp the second one. I’m working on a project myself with similar theme, our relationship to the landscape, i want to get a dreamy effect in my photos (am shooting digital) I’d love to create an effect like shot two, any suggestions? What did you hand in for your project in the end would like to see those!

BTW these look more like fine art than documentary.

excellent story and really apmospheric pics – looking at them I got your sense of place!

haven’t been on here in a while, thanks for the comments guys, just makes it even more sickening to have lost the negs :x Emma, to be honest i’d say the second shot was something of a fluke, given my experience with film, it was pretty much my first time using the Nikon FE as well (a really sweet little camera).
my project in the end was much different to these, can be seen here, http://www.flickr.com/photos/niallmac/page2/” onclick=”window.open(this.href);return false; the three framed b+w ones.
