brendancullenParticipantHi. You don’t say what camera you own?
If its a ‘Point & Click’ it may have its limitations.
I’ll give you my thoughts on what you may do.
Pin sharp focusing is the first VERY IMPORTANT point. Only the middle one is in focus. Maybe use manual mode with ‘Live view’ instead of the autofocus system. Also a tripod is essential for slower shutter speeds.
See if you can fit a filter to the lens. A ND4 or ND2 would allow the shutter to stay open longer, but letting less light in to get the ‘milky’ effect. If you can’t fit a filter – set to manual mode with the smallest aperture available. This will hence be the smallest hole – so less light is entering to the sensor. Then expiriment with shutter speeds from perhaps 1/4 sec to 2″. Reduce the ISO to its minimum. Look at all the images in your editor to see which setting worked best – and its a guide for future similar projects. You don’t need 4″ to get movement ( but its nicer sometimes).
Also try later in the day when the light is not so bright.
Hope this helps.

i am getting it hard to get my head around isoflynnyParticipantThe advice given above is all correct,
ISO in a digital camera makes the sensor more sensitive to light.
for the shot your trying to get here, your iso should be at max 100 and I would suggest a small aperture, f16 or f22
Where iso is very useful is when the available light is low, and you need to keep shutter speed up, by increasing iso it makes the sensor more sensitive to light and therefore enabling us to shoot with a higher shutter speed.
Shooting sports like football and rugby in low light conditions (floodlights) shutter speeds of 1/400th to 1/500th are needed so depending on the available light, your iso can be up around 1000 to 1600.
Hope this makes sensePaul WhParticipantHi Chris
great to see you’re out taking pics, all the above is right, use av or m mode only, iso 100, go for f16-f22, if too bright use a nd filter to reduce light and reduce shutter speed, make sure you focus manually that is very important and shoot on an overcast day oh! and don’t forget a polariser to reduce reflections.

chris100Participantthankyou brendan paul and paul wh i will try out the diffrent settings and will look in to getting a nd filter and polariser i really like the look of water in diffrent flows i know some waterfalls and rivers to try to get it right but they are at very low levels at the moment ido love the colors of the moss and rocks in these pictures as the hole country seems so gray and burnt at the moment
