Is the upgraded site slow on your computer too?

    Hi,

I’ve found the site very slow since the upgrade. It doesn’t take longer for the pages to load up, it’s just slower scrolling down the page for example.

Has anyone else found the same thing?

Mark, I don’t want to seem ungrateful as I know you worked hard on the upgrade. I just guess it’s just more memory intensive now (my computer is quite low on RAM compared to laptops available these days).

I also put this in the Lounge rather than one of the site related forums at the top of the page as I’m just wondering if anyone else is in the same boat as me, this isn’t a complaint as such, although I’d obviously like if the site was a bit more responsive.

I also have noticed that the pages are wider than my monitor – I don’t like that much.

    Thanks,

    Alan

p.s. If anyone happened to notice, this is also part of the reason why I haven’t been posting as much recently.

PI has always — for me — been a bit slower than other sites. I put it down to the servers.
I haven’t noticed any speed change for the better or worse recently — and in CH we have a
    very fast connection.

Thanks for the speedy reply, RC.

I’m not an expert in these matters but I think the slowdown for me is to do with the RAM in my computer more so than the servers or anything internet related.

The slowness on your end is to do with the internet from the sounds of things. Your internet on the continent is probably much speedier than anything I’d be used to. :)

Another p.s. is to say that the site is greatly improved by the fact that ctrl+click only opens the new tab and doesn’t open a new window and try and open the link in the tab you’re in – that used to drive me bonkers. But from complaining about that before I think that problem was on my end also (clinging stubbornly to Mozilla Firefox version 2 still).

    Thanks.

To be honest, it should be faster than before or at least the same.

In work, where I have a new very fast laptop, the site is extremely quick. Here at home
where I only have 1GB RAM (thought I had more!) its a good bit slower.

So the PC power will without a doubt have an impact…

TBH I have found it very slow since the upgrade. I have 2gigs of ram and all other sites I use are quick enough.

    Thanks for the replies lads.

Feel sorry for me and my 736 MBs of RAM. :D

Yes it seems a little slower since the upgrade
Just a tad but enough to notice it.
