My Canon 40D giving me the following error message
“Err 99 – shooting is not possible. Turn the power switch to off or no again or reinstall the battery”
Have changed batterys, swapped lenses etc, still the above error code. I live in Drogheda, have a friends wedding coming up I promised to help her out…any hints?
Can anyone recommend where to get it repaired? Should I send direct to Canon in Ireland? Do Canon even have a service centre in Ireland?
This, I believe is a component contact failure on the camera.
Remove the battery, lens and memory card from the camera and leave it powered down for about half an hour. This should reset the camera and get rid of the error. Clean the contacts on the battery, lens and on the camera mount with IPA and a wipe and put every thing back on again.
If the error returns, then you have a contact problem with either your lens, card or battery. If you are using a non-canon lens then this problem can be quite common and cleaning the contacts can get rid of it most of the time. It also crops up with cheapo memory cards.
I had the same problem with my 40D for ages and eventually cleaning all the contacts etc. fixed it for me.
