Hi Chris. Couple of things that hopefully might help.
    1. It’s been taken in strong sunshine which is always gonna give you distracting shadows as well as washing out the colour. I think there are potentially some nice warm natural colours to be captured in that scene. Example – the rust or brown coloured grass is almost white for the most part. Why don’t you try again on an overcast day or when the sun isn’t shining directly on it and compare the results.

    2. The subject matter is the boots but they’re a bit lost in all the space around them – too many other things are drawing the eye away from them. What looks like a nice scene to the naked eye very often doesn’t come across in a photo unless you isolate the main feature. If you feel something isn’t adding to the image, don’t include it.

    3. Try this shot again only this time take a different angle (maybe down lower?) and have the boots dominating the image. Depending on your camera you should also try and blur any background by using a much lower aperture value. If you cant do that try stepping back a few metres and zooming in – should give you a similar result.

Hopefully you’ll find all this helpful rather than critical :D.

    Cheers,
    Mark
