Hey there

CageyParticipant
Poor photographer here, still using a simple bridge cam until i can scrape funds together to buy my first dslr [so I’ll be eying up the sales section for bargains]
Been into ‘photography’ about a year now, but taking ‘snaps’ for over 20 years :)
I pop in and out of all the usual sites
My flickr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/cagey75/” onclick=”window.open(this.href);return false;
Pix.ie: http://pix.ie/cagey75″ onclick=”window.open(this.href);return false;
feel free to add :)
connieParticipantHello. :D Have used a bridge cam until last week and loved it.
I like your shots and have added you in flicker. :) I have seen the “view on black” attached to alot of photos including yours. What exactly does it mean…. *now keeping fingers crossed that it is some techno babble and not too simple an explanantion lolCageyParticipanthey, seen your add and also added.
I’m using a script for flickr through Google chrome, it has a few tricks on it that make flickr a little more interesting. I seen others use the ‘view on black’ links before but couldn’t work out how to do it. using the ap [think it’s called ‘Patr’ if you use chrome do a search for it] makes it easy as the option is down the side by the exif data. Other neat things it does: Shows exif data under all pics that aren’t hiding it, underneath the picture – Brings up all your groups in one box when you click ‘add to group’ so you can tick them all in one place. handy that one. Also any image you click on in a stream will pop out to large on a dark backing, giving you a much clearer view of it.
The view on black is just that, views images on black backing instead of the white. It can bring out the best in night images etc ..
try clicking it to see for yourself. On one of my pic’s … obviously :D
shutterbugParticipantCageyParticipantThank you, still feeling my way around and reading threads before jumping in :D
connieParticipantThanks Cagey :) Am using FF but have heard many a good thing about google chrome. I love the view on black option it makes such a diff to the B&W pics. I have to say that using a bridge cam you have taken some cracking shots. What one do you have. I was using a fujifilm sj8000
CageyParticipantThank you, I do feel sometimes there’s a little bit of snobbery on flickr. they like your shot, but then look to the Exif data and discover you’ve used a basic camera and some ‘pros’ snub your pics after that. Which is just wrong. On the other hand I’ve had very good photographers say they’re impressed with my stuff, esp using this cam – A fuji finepix s1000fd [don’t even think it’s available any more? it’s been replaced by a newer model with HD video]
It’s done the job for me, learned all the manual control basics on it and the IQ isn’t so bad, I find it a bit ‘soft’ and the colours can be a littl washy on dull days, so I often have to sharpen up and add some vibrancy in Lightroom – but hey, even the pro’s with high end full frames do that! :D
connieParticipantI think that is the case with all fuji. My one always needs a colour boost and a bit of a sharpen. I just have to learn to not overdo it :D
5faytheParticipantHi Cagey,
Welcome to PI and I hope you find the site interesting.
While it is nice to have lots of gear good photographs can be produced
with even the simplest of equipment.I find that most images from digital camera need a little adjusting post capture.
The best of luck.
John.
