Polaroid is back, at least the name is on new film. It will be interesting to see how it takes off.

Back for 18 months I reckon and then gone….
Personally I think the stuff is way to expensive and wont sell the numbers they need to sell to make it pay for itself
The last line in the link reads and I think sums it up “Cost: $21 for eight photos.” People are not going to pay that…

MI thought the same myself.
I would guess the market for instant film in Japan is still reasonable, there is a range of cameras and I see them being used, but that market is taken by Fujifilm.
The idea of instant probably has died out in most other places, except for novelty.Hope it works, perhaps by some lomographic style marketing it might.
Polaroid instant film was never cheap, even in its prime. I will shoot this film.
They obviously researched the market before deciding to make the product so I can only presume there is enough demand for it. Fair play to them, I hope it is successful.

Does anyone know if this PX film would work on a Bronica SQ polaroid back ? Takes whatever a Hasselblad
back would apparently.I’d like do see some Type 55 being produced as some stage. Looks superb in the right hands.

I knew yesterday that there was to be major news on this.
I do hope it goes well and its great to see people clinging
to analogue photography and this is another chapter hopefully

back would apparently.The new PX film is integral (“shake it”) film whereas the typical Polaroid back takes peel apart pack film. (but I am not familiar with the Bronica SQ).

For the PX film you either need a SX-70 or one of the 600 type cameras like the One Step.
Personally I haven’t been too impressed with the shots so far. The photos lack contrast and the film seems too unstable right now, at least with regards to temperature. Here in San Jose it was 24C today which is at the top end of the recommended developing temperature.
Apparently, TIP have also bought machinery for making 8×10 film so maybe we will see larger size instant film back some time in the future.
I don’t think it’ll work in a Polaroid back-
However, Fuji FP100 will work-
it’s available in in colour and BW-
and roughly the same price as this stuff-But you know that already-

This is the type that gives you the negative as well is it J, are there any other types that give you a negative. Just thinking of my pinhole project that I hope to start later in the year. It would be nice to see the picture straight away to check for exposure and then have a negative to print…
There aren’t really any dedicated pos/neg instants anymore-
However, it’s possible to reclaim the neg from that Fuji instant-
it’s mentioned in the blog link I posted-
It involves bleaching the anti halation layer from the back of the neg-
it’s not ideal, and it would mean having to store the negs in liquid as you go,
so it wouldn’t be great for using in the field-Since you have a Polaroid back (and film) for the RZ already,
it wouldn’t be difficult to build a pinhole camera on the front of it-
black foamboard, the aluminium from a coke can, and gaffer tape would do it-

if you like…I would like to try pinholes on the RZ, its a 70mm neg so would be interesting to see what result I might get from it in the darkroom. If you could bring the bit along on Sunday i’ll look after it and give it back to you asap. Might pick your brains also as to what I need to do…. I still want to do the 5×4 pinhole project though as the pics at the links below I think are amazing, really wide, sharpish and mad looking…

they’re pretty disposable, you’ll probably end up cursing them, and using a pin and some emery board-Those prints are great, very wide-
great variety of compositions too.Difficult to tell about sharpness at this scale, but the centre looks good-
Using a pinhole on the Mamiya will give you a much longer view due to the mirror box-
I bit the bullet and bought some packs of the PX100. If any of the shots come out, I’ll post them here.
So I finished my first pack and the results were not exactly stellar. Some didn’t come out at all and the ones that did were very flat and washed out.
My overall impression is that the film is extremely unstable. If Time-Zero was still being sold, this competing product would not have been released in its current form.
I did start a second pack and the first shot is a little better (albeit still with no contrast)
