Dioptric setting

Hi, I am shortsighted but do not wear glasses when taking photos as I only wear glasses for driving. Can someone clear up my confusion…should I change the dioptric setting on the camera with or without wearing the glasses?? Thanks very much for any advice!

Yep you should be able to. There should be a little dial or something similar near to the eye piece.

If you normally don’t wear your specs, then set your dioptre to suit your vision accordingly. The dioptre setting has no effect on the focusing of your camera, just your eyes. Any time I see questions on this subject, I have to stop and think for a second or two. I’ve graduated from occasional specs wearer, through full-time wearer, to full-time bifocal wearer, and if you asked me which part of the lens I look through when peering through my view-finder, I couldn’t tell you! (It’s the long distance part) What I found a year or two ago, was that neither part of the lens was right for viewing the monitor, so I had a word with the optician and he made me a pair of specs with a focal length of roughly 2′ 6″, which worked out perfect for computer use. They’re useless for anything else of course, but I’m happy now in front of my computer.
