HDR – 1st attempt (colour version added!)

slang61Participant
Hi all,
I know alot of you are highly opposed to HDR, but I really like it and having recently acquired photomatix pro I thought it was time I gave it a go.
This is a view from the balcony of my ground floor apartment.
C&c as always very much appreciated.

STU.dick longParticipantIs this HDR, really?
It doesn’t look overcooked at all.
Some people hate HDR (feckin cliques), but personally I love it. You know art is subjective of course.
Good to see people availing of 21st century post processing techniques.
Well done, nice one.
jb7ParticipantThe people who come out saying ‘I love HDR’ always accuse other people of hating it,
or in this case, being opposed to it.It really doesn’t matter how many times, or however many different ways I say it-
but I’d quite like some of you HDR lovers to show me where somebody has said that they hate HDR.I don’t hate it, I’m not opposed to it, that would be a stupid thing to say.
It would be the same as saying ‘I hate the brightness slider’If I have said it, you’ll show me where.
I hate what some people do with it, however, and the gaudy, fantasy land pictures they like to create with it.
That is a different thing.
Regarding this picture, I really can’t, or shouldn’t, comment. It seems it’s easier for HDR lovers to shift the blame onto the process,
without taking responsibility for what they do with it-
and then claim that it’s others who have the problem.I’d like you to name some HDR Haters- or anyone who is opposed to the process.
The lovers will around to spread it soon enough.MarkKeymasterdick long wrote:

Please read the rules regarding baiting. I don’t want to read anymore comments like this !
slang61ParticipantI definitely wasnt having a go at anyone. i wast just saying that i know some people realy dont like HDR.
I was just asking people for C&C on this image as it stands – not a debate…

So stating that you love HDR is a breach of site rules?
Apologies – I like HDR, I like the fantasy look and the effect it can give an image. I hope this settles the confusion.

Dick, it should be pretty obvious that the quote above per my last post is what I’m referring to.
STU – my moderation wasn’t directed at you :)
dick longParticipantslang61Participantdick longParticipantI’d crop out some of the foreground.
Maybe fix the halo around the trees on the left.
The sky is blown in parts, so I’d look at replacing it.
The shadows cast on the side on the tallest building look a bit odd… sort of un-even.
Hope this helps.
Dick.
b318ispParticipantWe’re getting personal again!
IMO, I prefer the B&W version, but would crop a little off the foreground. I’d also step back a notch on the processing, a more subtle rendering may be better.

the black and white version has more going for it – though personally the image holds no interest for me – as a comparison do you have a non HDR shot to add to the line up to see the difference
To each their own on the use of HDR as far as i’m concerned – some images i think it suits as it can add a creative dramatic personal flair – i have seen some excellent black and white were HDR has been subtely used to great effect without overdoing it

Brilliant! Observations like this are worth visiting the site for.
I’m afraid that I can’t be as wholeheartedly enthusiastic about the images
though. I don’t really care if pictures are HDR or not, but these just look
weird to me.
