Terrible at self-portraits.. need tips

I love doing self-portraits, I get amazing ideas but they never seem to work out.
I find it really hard to get angles and focus right, I tend to stiffen up around the camera too because i ‘try to hard’, I could take around 50 photos and their MIGHT be one that I like.
    Is their any tips people can give me to help me;
    a. lossen up when I’m infront of the camera
    b. ways to help me figure out angles / lighting / how to get the focus right …. etc.

I just want a normal good self portrait that I can be happy about =]

I know exactly what you mean, thats why I stay on the other side of the camera :)
No matter how much you try and how many you take I think it is human nature to
be critical of pictures (a) that you have taken yourself and (b) that you have taken
    OF yourself!

I dont think I would ever be happy of a picture I had taken of myself

Practice practice practice. The more you pratice the luckier you’ll become! ;)

    tips:
    1. Use manual focus
    2. prefocus on a chair or something where you will be standing.
    3. make a mark on the floor and move the chair
    4. use a tripod
    5. use a remote release – easier than the self timer
    6. don’t forget to breath when u get frustrated
    7. take a few pictures before checking them on the camera
    8. don’t give up
    9. Have a project with goals

    Hope that helps! :)
