I am interested in buying a 70-300mm lens.I like doing sport Photography and would like your opnion. Is this lens recommended or would you advise something else.I priced a sigma lens for €200.I have a Canon 40D.Thanks
It depends on what you are thinking of using the lens for. The 70-300mm lens is an OK lens, don’t expect it to be brillant for sports as it is a slow lens in terms of F stop, but it will get you reasonably close to the action in good light. Its also OK for wildlife shots in good light. Just don’t expect the contrast and sharpness to be on par with a professional quality ‘L’ lens. It is also considerably less expensive than a 70-200m
If you are interested in a genuine canon 75-300 complete with lens hood, I have one for sale on the for sale forum. Drop me a pm if you decide to go down that route.
I got a tameron 70-300 lense from Jessops(scotland) with my canon 500D and it does ok. I am glad I got it. however, It does not have image stabilisation so for me who has an unsteady hand I have to use a tripod if going to full zoom. It does have a macro option which is good, but nowhere near as good as macro specific lense. As for the sports side of things I am unable to comment.
As photoemt says it is not as sharp at full zoom either, so you need to be very confident about your focus skill :) I am still hit and miss but have managed to get some good shots when doing it right in good light lol
