First Landscape post so C&C welcome.
As the subject line says it was taken at Black Head in Clare with a Canon Eos 300v with Ilford FP4 plus.

Very flat and lacking interest :(

    Very flat and lacking interest

How would you suggest I add depth or make it interesting ?

People are encouraged to give constructive criticism on this site, but this is just plain criticism. Any tips on how to improve the shot, now that you’ve already shot it down? ;)

    I Like it!!

I like the graininess and gritiness of it – brings across the bleak nature of the location very well. And I like the strong lighting on the lighthouse (though perhaps it is a little too strong??) and the texture of the rocks in the foreground

I find the composition simple but effective.

I think you have the right idea with the composition, but I think the lighthouse should be a notch to the left. I’m not sure what to make of the grain…I wonder if there’s enough definition in the clouds for it to work.

A bit more contrast in the clouds would improve this image in my opinion.

My comments referred to the flat nature of the greys – there is very little contrast between them, which causes the focal point of the lighthouse to be “swallowed” up.

    Thanks Guys,
I agree with the comments re the lighthouse, I think it does pop out a bit and could be toned down and moved over to the left to balance it a bit more.
I tried to get more definition into the clouds but its just not there, it was a bit of a hazy day when I took the shot so maybe that contributed to it.
I have to say I like the grain even though for the film type it was a little granier than I expected, although I know its not to everyone’s taste.
Once again thanks for all the comments.

Bit late to this one I’m afraid. No need to critique the critique folks. thanks
