Hello All,
Been looking at this site for a while and really enjoyed this section. Really inspired by the regular posters on here, I’ve decided to throw a couple of my own up from a recent trip to Brussells. Any critique gladly appreciated.
Saw this lady come out of a restaurant with a slice of pizza, looked like she was on her lunchbreak and in a rush…was that her son she was feeding? And if she had to go back to work, where was he going next?
This one was shot from the hip (it’s a bit soft) but I like the suspicious look on her face all the same…not sure about the composition though?
MartinOCParticipantI like the first shot here, nice capture of an quiet moment between mother and child.
The second doesn’t work so well for me. The big problem is the crane, it draws the eye away from the people so there isn’t a strong focus.
If the crane wasn’t there, and perhaps the guy second from right looking at the camera, it would be an interesting line of people engaging with the camera. But getting in and close is great, I need to do this more.Martin
WIFTMemberThanks for the feedback Martin. Yes, I should have cropped the crane, the old adage “if it’s not adding to the image then it’s taking away from it”.
MarkKeymasterWelcome to the site !. Good first posts. I’m with Martin, the first one is a good moment captured well.
Second one is almost there but too much happening around the girl with the dog.Keep it up and lets see more :)
stevebMemberIm not sure. I like the first one, but its not very original, so my interest wanes immediately. For that reason I veer towards the second one, I like the suspicious look too, but I also like the busy feel of it, it is a street shot after all.
Emmet.LParticipantHi,
I’d agree with steveb on this one. The first is a bit cliche, the second I like though. It looks candid which is interesting, the woman looks like she heard the shutter anyway!DedalusParticipantI like them both, I agree with Martin, it’s a nice capture of mother and child.
The second I like even more, I can understand the guys comments about the crane, and the image could probably do without it, but, the first thing my eye was drawn to was the lower half of the image, there’s so much there, the guy with the sun glasses, thy guy in the t-shirt, and with a doubt the woman and dog.
I think if you look at this image enough, you’ll get a lot out of it.
Really nice fotoMichaelMcGrathParticipantActually the first shot would be a good picture in social criticism to highlight the fast junk that kids are being fed today .
MichaelMcGrathParticipantBest , therefore, in such a situation, to have a model release form in your pocket , getting it signed , with an agreement for ten per cent for your clients if it makes any money . I think the HSE would love it , submit it to their Campaigns Office , if you can find the woman now .
