    Hi All,

It’s been a while since i posted on PI so i just want to start by saying hi to everyone once again.

I am thinking about setting up a new Pet Photography company in and around the Galway area and would like to get some feedback from you to see if i am wasting my time. Where better to go than here

While taking photo’s of my dog they turned out really well. In order to see if it was just a fluke i took more of friends dogs and thought that this could be a nice little earner (currently unemployed) so here i am asking you all for feedback.

Thing is with the way the economy is i want to see if there is a market for it or am i flogging a dead horse. As so many are also pet owners if you were not photographers yourselves would a professional session be something you would consider spending money on?

I am still trying to work out costs but would be looking in the region as a starter option of €150 which would include the shoot at your own home / park and include a framed 10×8″ print

Have a look at my site to see what you think and looking forward to your feedback http://www.justinmcgrane.com” onclick=”window.open(this.href);return false; (Still work in process so bear with me)

    Thanks all

    Justin

Hi there Justin. Took the time to have alook at your site but have to say that it would have been nice to see more images of the service you are offering I think i counted 4 different photos maybe 5.. The standard is below what I would want if i was parting with some money for a pet shot. Wasnt impressed with the who’s Justin page especially with the pop up flash image of yourself… anyways just my 2 cent worth and you may not even think its worth 2 cent..

Thanks for the feedback Damien, All is welcome good or bad. As i mentioed i am only thinking of starting off and wanted to get some feedback from my peers and while the content is very limited i am still in the process of adding content / more variety.

As you will know starting off getting and the right content does not come automatically and builds over time but again i appreciate your feedback.

yeh its hard to get off the ground but what im seeing more and more off is people putting the cart before the horse. people building websites looking to start a business but yet failing to get enough shots or experience to get the customers in the door.. the website should be the last thing not the first…..

I’d agree with Damien. I’d work on the photos first before launching your business as whats on the site at the minute wouldn’t inspire confidence from me if I was a paying punter. The exposure is wrong in a few of them as well. Getting the exposure right is the first thing you need to sort out. They are all very dull as well as the light is not great in them.
I would imagine pet photography is pretty difficult to do well as to get the right light you need to put the animal where you want them and getting them to stay there would be some task!!
Best of luck with it but I’d hold off for another while with the launch until you’ve built up a pretty comprehensive portfolio and plenty experience.

A slight suggestion if I may, for some of the photos in the gallery, I’d sharpen them a bit more, almost oversharpened even, as they’re being displayed on the web. They look very soft to me, althought I may be wrong!

    Hi Justin,

In general I think it’s a good idea and when the recession lifts I think it could take off, some people are very much so ‘ pet people ‘. I had a look at your site and although I am not great with the technical end of photography I could see straight away their faces were shadowed in most of them and also, you seem to cut off their paws etc …. I think eyes would be a very important part of your animal to you, if you were paying a fee to have them photographed and in almost all they were off/dark/shadowed/blurred.

I would imagine pets are hard subjects to photograph.

    Linda.
