    Hey there,

I had a Sigma 10-20mm lens… since it’s wide angle it’s a great lens for landscapes. Recently upgraded my camera so it wasn’t compatible with it any longer. I was sad when i had to part with it. I replaced it with a Canon 17-40mm lens… which i love too. I’d recommend either one of those. Both nice & sharp & couldn’t fault them really.

May be other lenses suitable too, but those are the only ones i’ve had experience with.

It supposed to be a good lens but if you think you might ever upgrade to a full-frame dSLR in the future (like a 5D or 5D2) then an EF-S won’t work with it because it is designed for cropped sensor cameras only. Just something to bear in mind…

You might want to also keep an eye out for a Canon EF 17-40/4L. It could be a good focal range for what you want to do.It’s wide enough for landscape and street even with the crop-factor. It will work on full-frame as well should you ever go to that. The build quality is excellent as it is in the ‘L’ lens range and the optical quality is highly regarded. It’s around the same price as the EF-S 10-22 (give or take).

    Hope that helps… :-)

Second the advice above, but wouldn’t recommend the 17-40 on a crop sensor camera—simply because there are better lenses available for crop sensor.

I’ve used a 10-22 on a 30D for the past while. It’s a cracking lens. I also used a Sigma 18-50 2.8—it wasn’t as sharp, had a more all-round focal range and had a wider aperture, but I really missed the wide angle.

I’ve just moved to full frame so I’m switching to the 17-40 f4 L. Second hand prices are the same for both 10-22 and 17-40, so it’s no prob to switch if you do go full frame.

So, have I convinced you yet? Do you want my Canon 10-22? ;-)

I was in your boots for couple months and just got myself UWA.
    My choises were Sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6, Canon EF-S 10-22/3.5-4.5 USM, Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8.
I’ve got Tokina for the following reasons:
Sigma although cheapest has problems with QC. It is sharp in the midle but not in the edges.
Canon better than Sigma but not as much to justify huge price.
Tokina is considered the best UWA for APS-C cameras, very sharp and fast. It has some weakneses but overall very impresive lens.

Received mine on Tuesday and am very happy with it.
    BTW: I’m also using 40D

Got a 10-22 off Rog on this site a few weeks ago for my crop frame (7D) and I’m loving it. The 17-40 just aint wide enough to let you explore the most of certain scenes. They seem to hoild their price well too, €1079 RRP on the Canon site.
