People passing street art

esthermolineParticipant
I like taking photographs of people passing street art. Here are some examples. What do you think?
You can see more of these at

I myself like them because I’m into street art and I find it’s more interesting to shoot it with people going past than by itself, to show it interacting with the life that goes on in the streets. But I guess there’s maybe a conflict then with what the subject of the picture is… Appreciate your reply :D
5faytheParticipantHi Esther,
I think it’s good to come up with ideas for photo projects and
see how they turn out.
Mostly you’ll have an idea yourself whether they are successful or not.You say you like them yourself which is most important.
I’d agree with streetshooter’s comment re the “the people get lost in the art.”
I do think the first two are more successful than the 3rd.
Probably a little too much included in that one.I have tried a few of these myself and do find it hard to mingle the
passerby successfully with the art.
I have wondered too if the art on it’s own is enough to make an interesting photograph.Well done with the idea and I look forward to more attempts.
Cheers.
John.
esthermolineParticipantThat’s great, thanks John! I have a lot photographs of street art on its own. I usually take two shots, one with people and one without and I always tend to prefer the one with people! I feel if you just take a photo of the street art you’re just showing somebody else’s work, not your own as a photographer. It is true the people get lost in the art but I like to see what the interaction of the two things creates, I’m having fun doing this! I see what you mean about the third one with the traffic, etc., but I kind of liked the contrast of the classic building with the dome and the street art. I did lots of other shots of that same graffiti on its own too. Here’s two more photos I took on that same street (Richmond Street), they keep changing the art there! Thanks a mil again for your reply, much appreciated!

I get where you’re coming from Esther – perhaps tighter cropping may help, without losing too much of the art of course :)
esthermolineParticipantDedalusParticipantI would tend to agree with the others, I think a close crop would be the way to go, it would also perhaps make the art a bit more punchy I think.
Keep shootin’.esthermolineParticipantesthermolineParticipantHere’s another two shots, one with and one without people. I cropped the first one more than I normally would have!
MichaelMcGrathParticipantI think it’s good work, I really think you should get a shot of someone looking at and absorbed in that street art , or even someone looking disgusted by it which is more often the reality . Cheers, Michael .
esthermolineParticipantGood idea, thanks Michael, I’ll try that, although I’ve never seen anybody stop to look at the graffiti, people tend to ignore it… I’ll keep my eyes open for the situation though!
esthermolineParticipantesthermolineParticipantHere’s another shot I took recently of someone passing street art. What do you think?
