Buying a 5D Mk II first wedding in 4 weeks
-
maggieParticipant
Hi guys,
I have a canon 50d and am investing in a 5D Mk II. My first wedding is in less than 4 weeks. Am I mad to think I’ll get to grips with the new camera before then? Should I instead borrow or rent out another 50d??
Any advice most welcome for this novice ;)BrianParticipantIt shouldn’t be too different to the 50D in terms of controls. It’s a great camera, you can recover a lot of highlight detail so remember to expose to the right. Also, the Raw files are huge so be sure to have extra storage, 4GB cards minimum.
BrianParticipantForgot to ask; what lenses will you be using? This is more important than what camera model really…
iophotoworksParticipantHi Maggie,
The 5D2 is very easy to adjust to coming from the 50D you have. The high-ISO performance is excellent if you plan on doing natural-light shots indoors. I would say just go for it but use the camera as much a possible before the shoot so that you have a feel for the handling.
maggieParticipantThanks a mil for the replies. I’ll be using a
canon fisheye,
Canon 50mm,
Canon 16-35 f2.8
Canon70-200 f2.8 (buying this with the 5d)I know I have invested well in the lenses. I’m still so nervous about the weddings. Do you mind me asking what settings you use on the camera…ie: AV or Manual? Also on focusing..do you use auto or manual focus?
I did some searching on the net about the 5d and there were some people talking about the lack of sharpness for the Mark II. As I read on, it seemed that people having the problems weren’t used to the camera which is what led to me posting this. On another note, do you all use flash when doing wedding photography? I don’t use my flash very much at all but was at a wedding recently where the photographer (with a 50D) used his flash for every photo including outdoor shots on a bright sunny day? I wondered..
I intend to buy maybe 2 16GB cards and have an 8GB card. Is this enough? Should I set the camera to L and Raw? I haven’t as yet figured out how to process the raw files. How did any of you learn this art?
I would really appreciate any other tips or advice you could offer me! Thanks again for the replies so far.
