B&W dev in Dublin
-
MartinOCParticipant
I will be in Dublin for a spell next month and I was wondering where is can I get b&w development done quickest.
I understand Gunns develop b&w on Tuesdays and Thursdays
I leave Dublin on a Monday, so I’m thinking handing in film on the previous Wednesday evening the latest I could get film developed. Is there anywhere else that has a different, maybe later, schedule?
I can bring iso400 undeveloped back on the plane with me, but if I shoot iso1600 I’d like to get it developed before I leave. Thanks,
MartiniophotoworksParticipantHi Martin,
One the of best labs in Ireland for B&W developing is Hetty’s Darkroom. A few years ago she moved from Dublin down to Kinsale (outside Cork). Quite a few of the Dublin outlets courier down to her (especially for prints). She is also extremely efficient and if you are in the Cork area during your trip might be able to help you out. It would be worth contacting her first. You can google her website.
Hope this helps!
DedalusParticipantI think if you explain to Gunn’s your situation they will more than happily oblige you, they are very helpfull, or you could always drop them an e-mail at http://www.johngunn.ie/contact-us/” onclick=”window.open(this.href);return false;
MartinParticipantTalk to Gunns and see what they can do for you.
The camera exchange on Georges st I think do film development also
Photo labs on Lennox street will do it also http://www.photolabs.ie/Black_White_Film_Processing.HTML” onclick=”window.open(this.href);return false; Most places are only doing it one or two days a week these days, Photo Labs do same day service and a rush service but you will need to check if this is still being done…
Gunns and Photo Labs are the only two places I would trust to dev my film for me if i didnt do it myself…

MartinOCParticipantThanks all,
I won’t be in Cork this time Tony.
I’ll enquire in the Dublins labs suggested.
I might try to get out to Bloomsday as I read the book recently.Cheers
MartinbingbongbiddleyParticipantIt’s been said already but Gunn’s may well accommodate you. I went in before and they told me the film would be ready the following week – I went in the next day to collect some colour film and they had it done!
Are you worried about the 1600 getting effected the xray machines? For what it’s worth I brought exposed and unexposed 1600 b&w film through several xrays – at airports and otherwise on a trip to Egypt and it had no effect whatsoever on the film.
MartinOCParticipantThanks BBB,
I have read of some people complaining of damage to iso1600 film, so I guess it is a question of probability and degree, most won’t notice anything. If I don’t have to take the chance I’d rather not. I might just shoot colour toward the end.Gunn’s must follow the maxim (as I do myself): “under-promise and over-deliver”; it is a very wise way to do business :)
Cheers,
Martin
bingbongbiddleyParticipantYeah absolutely Martin, if you don’t feel it’s worth the risk you’re better trying to avoid it.
I could have been lucky. The lady in Gunn’s said she’d never seen any problems either.
I tried my best to avoid the xrays but it was impossible – I figured it better to bring them through in my hand luggage too as at least those machine’s claim to be film safe.
Hope it works out anyway.
