Folks,
I keep coming back to this street malarky, find it fascinating, but would appreciate some feedback on these if you wouldn’t mind.
What I think is okay might well be useless but I’d be keen to hear some constructive criticism.
Motion in Music?
The Interview
The Cobbles Chase
Thanks Lads,
Liam.
CoveyParticipantOk.

See what were looking for, but doesn’t work for me. It’s too unsharp, which of itself isn’t a valid criticism, as sharpness can be overrated!. But here it needs something to define what you’re looking for and the lack of that definition, especially in the background doesn’t really work well for me.
No 2 –
For me it’s a documentary shot, not really street!
No.3 –
Now this I like.
The kids are not that unusual or interesting to make a great photo, nice as they are.
But you have all the elements in the background that is not just interesting, but brings the whole photo together imo. The woman on the balcony, the Muslim woman showing concern for the kids and almost everyone seeming to fit perfectly into the scenario.
Like it very much indeed.
It appears to be a bit of a crop maybe and might benefit from a tad more space.
Nice!!
WIFTMemberOkay Thanks Covey. Really appreciate your feedback. Some very useful pointers.
#1 – I was waiting for the shot but I guess it just didn’t work – next time maybe.
#2 – Okay, need to look at Documentary, looks like I’m combining it with street.
#3 – Yes. It is a crop, is this a schoolboy error? Should I go for wider to give more of a feel?
Thanks again.
CoveyParticipantRe No. 3 –
Not at all a schoolboy error, or indeed an error at all!. Just, sometimes “street” needs a bit of space. Only you know whats outside the crop.
DedalusParticipantI think the problem with No1 one is the blured people, because the graffiti seems to have gradient in it, the whole image looks as if it is suffering from camera shake, a higher shutter speed to freeze the people would be better perhaps.
I agree with Covey No2 is a documentary shot but I like No 3, it’s a really nice street scenestreetshooterMemberI love no. three.
I love the depth of detain – everything from the kids to the guy on the balcony.
Lots of things going on, and you have captured it all very well – almost a “where’s Wally” type shot –
a lovely example of street! WELL DONE!streetshooterMemberNo 2 –

Unless we can associate a story with this shot, it’s definitle street. so what’s the story that merits the documantary tag ?
MartinOCParticipantI agree with the others on # 1, if it was sharper it would be a lot better. I do think that you picked the spot to shoot very well. Where they are placed in the graphic is the spot.
I generally try to use 1/125 or near speed for my street stuff, I read it somewhere.
It leaves a small blur, a suggestion of movement.
I know someone who uses really fast shutter speeds and gets a different “frozen time” feel. For me #2 is ok as a street shot, as my definition is ‘people/life in an urban setting’. But if you are taking a very narrow picture of someone about their job, it is documentary too. In any case it doesn’t hold as much interest for me as the other two.
#3 is great.

WIFTMemberThanks for taking the time to comment lads. I have a bit of experimenting with shutter speeds ahead of me!
Cheers.
