Here’s another image in my Dublin project. I’d love feedback

This image is of the forty foot in Dublin. I love the contrast between the hard stone and the soft texture of the water gushing over the rock. I’d love your feedback, good or bad.
wirepicParticipantIf you’re going for the contrast between the water and the rocks you probably need to get a bit closer. And also use a slower shutter speed to get that woolly water effect.
stevebMemberI dont know, I like this as it is. Colours are strong, I can almost smell the place. Get closer maybe, but then your photograph will look like lots of other photographs of this subject
EnzymeParticipantI didn’t want to go any slower. I like the way the water is not just creamy. It has some movement so I could capture the power of the water more as it gushes over the rocks. If I went any closer I would have not have been able to include the rock wall on the right which frames the shot. If you put your hand over it you’ll see that the composition becomes weaker The panoramic images I do are printed quite large. It’s sort of hard to see it as it should be at this small size I guess.
JMac-2006ParticipantHi Enda
You got nice light there on the rocks. The side wall though i think unbalances the image – could you have used the tiles a bit more as a lead in line to the forty foot – you would probably have to lose or crop howth on the horizon but that could be worth it to give more impact?
however at this size the waves etc are very small – on a larger print it might all come together
EnzymeParticipantSteveDParticipantEnda,
Have you tried burning the rockpool and rock wall? At the moment I think you are trying too hard to keep everything nice and bright. Darkening it right down might add a bit more impact?

On the right hand side – i mean the step – looks like its tiled on this screen :)
could you have put it to more use in the composition?EnzymeParticipantHi Jason
Aw now that makes more sense. You even had me scanning my own photo for bloody tiles!!
I don’t know if that would would work with this particular photo. Personally I think if you cut off the tip of Howth, especially with the lighthouse on the right hand side it would weaken the image.b318ispParticipantFor me, the gushing water is a minor feature of the shot, it doesn’t jump out as being one of the main dominants. I also find my eye wandering around – perhaps in larger scale the whole image comes together, but I find it a bit busy. I’d easily loose some of the bottom and left side to bring it closer to your opening post.
