Short Term Insurance

Hi there,
I am going to Colombia for 3 weeks on 4th July. My wfe is Colombian and I have been there twice before and never had a problem. However I got a Nikon D200 last year whereas previously I had a Nikon D50 with me so I am looking to see if I can get insurance for the camera and lens for a 3 week holiday period.
Does anyone know of anywhere that would do this ?
iophotoworksParticipantIf you are not a professional then it is relatively easy to add your camera and lenses as named items on your house insurance and then they are insured even when out of the home. It usually works out as fairly inexpensive for the year. You would have to check to make sure that your home policy covers your named items even when the accompany you on your travels outside of the country.
paulParticipantIt actually would be highly unusual that your home insurance (even specified items) would be covered outside the country.
You may find it quite difficult to get insurance for your needs.
markst33ParticipantI rang 123.ie whom I have the house insurance with and to add the camera as a named item for body only with a value of €600 would cost €36 for the year and that gives me coverage outside the country for up to 60 days.
iophotoworksParticipantThat sounds about right. I’m with Eagle Star (Zurich) and the last time I checked I was told that my named gear was covered outside the country for a limited period (can’t remember exactly how long). It’s one thing to be told this but I couldn’t find a reference to that in the policy documents so I wonder what would happen in the even of a actual claim…
mervifwdcParticipantJust be sure you dont make any money with the camera, or that clause is invalid. :-0
beanmakerParticipantJust looking at this makes me think now about getting cover for my camera. I am renting at the moment and can’t seem to find contents only cover that isn’t as much per year as the items i need cover for… doh!
So is there general camera insurance i can take out?
