What lens do you use most at a wedding?

    Hi all,
Have my first wedding this weekend. Just doing my list of photographs and putting down which lens with which camera I intend using etc. I am renting a 24-105m canon lens and wondering if I’ll be using this for most of my shots ie: group shots, bride arriving in car, bride coming up the aisle, couple lighting wedding candles etc. Just wondering if this is the lens that usually spends most time on your camera during photography of the wedding or is it a different lens?
    The lenses I have are as follows;

    Canon
    16-35m
    50m
    70-200m
    15m Fisheye

    and renting the 24-105m.

    Tips most welcome !!!!

24-70 2.8 (Nikon dont make a high quality equivalent for the 25-105) and an 80-200 2.8, almost nothing else. Considering Canon 500d close-up filter so I can ditch 100mm macro too.

Definately the 24-105 for nearly everything Maggie…used the fisheye recently for a few different shots
of the bridal party sitting on the edge of a fountain and it was great loking…do’nt overdo it though
as you can can get some very weird effects…have you two camera bodies ?

    Hi all,

Have just found this forum and I’m looking forward to chatting and discussing photography with you..

Can anyone help me? I was wondering if you think the 17-85mm f4-5.6 IS USM Lens will do for a wedding?

    I also have the standard 18 – 55 and 70 – 300 and I have a second body. I’m doing a wedding in Nerja and I don’t think I can afford the 24 – 105 lens.

Your thoughts are very much welcome :))

Thanks guys. Noel I have planned out what shots I want to use the fisheye for – just about 2 or 3 pics. Have two bodies. One (5d MkII) I’ll use mostly and going to leave the 70-200 on the 50D. What shots do you typically get with that lens for a wedding..I assume just Candids during the ceremony?

Can I offer you a tip that is pure gold dust for any photographer no matter how experienced: Take photos with your camera of poses and situations that you like from wedding magazines or even the computer screen, let these be the first images on your memory cards. Have one memory card for church shots, one for formals, one for party etc with relevant shots for each situation that you feel you can achieve. Then as you take your pics you are only one click away from lots of ideas and inspirations on the back of your camera and the bride and groom won’t even suspect a thing, it will just look like your examining your last pic.

I know there’ll be those who hate this idea or whine about copyright etc. but if your mind goes blank (like mine has a tendency to do) it could really save your bacon and the entire wedding.
