Carlow Tree
-
shutterbugParticipant
I know this tree has been done to death, but I was so delighted to finally find it, I will go back when the
crop is a little more ripe I think!DougLParticipantCare to share the location?
I’m not sure I’d go for the central position of the tree in the composition. I think using a leading line of one of the tractor paths to draw the eye in from left to right is the way to go.
-Doug
shutterbugParticipantThanks Doug! I did play around with a couple of different crops, but kept coming back to
this one, I did go into the field to find tractor tracks to use but the crop has probably
grown quite a bit since the last spray so they were not very defined, I think the only reason
you can see them in the distance is the angle of the field. I know there have been many
better shots on the site, it is a lovely tree and the shape of the field adds to it.It is on the main road N90 I think between Carlow and Tullow, it is quite easy to spot a
straight stretch of road and on the left if you are coming from Carlow.PixelleMemberNo, it’s on the old Carlow-Kilkenny road just south of the Dolmen Hotel, on the left-hand side. :0)
I hope that next year they go back to the half and half sowing pattern of pervious years.DougLParticipantBingo! I know where this is, and I knew I’d seen it recently, and not on this site. Some friends of mine have a house near Kilkenny, and they have a picture of this tree with the half-and-half sowing pattern hanging in their kitchen.
-Doug
DerricParticipantThat tree seems lonely to me. Anyway i will to get it on the sunny day with the shadow and i will put the tree not at the center of the image.
martinkingphotosParticipantNice shot but have to agree about the comment on “half and half” sowing. Its a more pleasing scene
then.
I think this is the location:

Martin……if you look at the google map there are about four pictures all in different places but all of the same tree :)
but it is in the general area, there is a beautiful old farmhouse beside it which is very photogenic also.brendancullenParticipantThis is a particular ‘favourite’ of Kilkenny photographer Edward Dullard.
See his stream here of this field.

shutterbugParticipantThanks for that Brendan, you wouldnt think one tree could look so different :)
SteveDParticipantJenny, I like the composition, although I might be tempted to crop a little off the top or bottom (but not both!).
I would love to see this scene shot early or late in the day -whichever would allow warm light to shine on the side or front of the tree. That might add a bit more atmosphere and depth.
shutterbugParticipantThanks Steve, I think a bit off the bottom would work! I think the sun would rise behind
it which could be good, then the sun would set in front of it which could be better? Just
camp out for the day and night to be sure :)SteveDParticipantjessthespringerParticipantThat’s lovely Jenny, really like the central positioning of the tree… I do think it’s crying out to be square though. That’d be perfect!
Sinead
shutterbugParticipantThanks Sinead, dont know why I didnt go square I usually favour them too! :)
