Like the relection of the other model in the first and geat DOF in both of them, What setup did you use?
SodaTigsMemberHi Soda!
Ok as i’m very new to this i’m not to top on the abbreviations… So first can ya tell me what DOF is!
Ok so the shoot was for a friend of mines new album… ha ha they are defo chicks with tude alright!!!!
I’m not too sure what soft is so could you explain what you mean…
As regards to setup… again… not sure what you mean! But i think i used the sports mode on the camera and just shot… no adjustments or anything cos i’m still very unsure how to use the camera!!!
Please do let me know if i should be using a different setup etc..
Thanks
TigsJMac-2006Participant#1 and #3 You got nice blurry backgrounds in these – from a shallow depth of field DOF – #3 is my favourite great stance and attitude and cool hair
#2 looks like the focusing was off combined with slow shutter speed.great looking girls, what’s the name of the band.
TigsMemberThanks Jmac,
Ahhh depth of field… now that i know ha ha!!!
It’s not a band it’s a rapper… his name is NOX… Nothing released yet…. Check himout on facebook… if rapping is your thing then he’s the guy… he has recently opened a modeling group including the two girls it’s called bad candy girls… i think he takes all the pics himself as he recently bought a 7d… these were taken with my 1000d while he was taking them with his 7d…
Mostly it was for practise for myself but he is using some of the pics!!!
#2 – i get you now with the soft… ha i was playing around with the iso and the lighting… still learning…
thanks so much for all the feedback… please have a look at my sports pic and my nature pics… i’m loving taking the pics but still have to figure out all the modes etc on the camera!

JMac eplained this one for you.Ok so the shoot was for a friend of mines new album… ha ha they are defo chicks with tude alright!!!!

And this :DAs regards to setup… again… not sure what you mean! But i think i used the sports mode on the camera and just shot… no adjustments or anything cos i’m still very unsure how to use the camera!!!
Lisa definitely not the setup I was thinking about :D. I wondered what sort of lighting you had used and lens etc. Sports mode was one I hadn’t reckoned on if using the pre sets I think Portrait would have been the obvious choice (head icon) but I was wrong again. Keep practicing using the AV and TV modes(I think using a Nikon myself) or in the case of these just keep doing what you are doing the main thing enjoy the photograhy. Please do let me know if i should be using a different setup etc..
Hope this helps a bit but there will definitely be plenty of advice given on here.
Thanks
TigsTigsMemberAh… Hi!!!!
Oh right so setup…
It was natural light but i stood in the shadows and had the girls in the sunlight… The lens was the standard one i got with the camera…
I was using sports mode because the girls had been climbing up and down the steps and railings so i wanted as many shots as possible to get the best one… They were actually fairly quick pose and shoot shots!I’m still learning the merits of AV, TV and RAW not too sure of myself where iso etc come in… just gotta keep reading those books hahaha!!!
I’m loving the photography alright!!!
Thanks so much for the comments!!!
MMXParticipantWohoo, nice bit… ehm, models :D
Unfortunately, neither photo is focused correctly. The biggest mistake was the sports mode – it uses continuous focusing to track a moving object.
When you are photographing people, eyes must be always sharp. So choose one autofocus point, focus on one of model´s eyes and then recompose the photo.
Use the AV mode (forget about the amateur modes such as portrait or sports, they belong to point and shoot cameras) and set the aperture fully open (if your lens is not sharp enough when fully open, stop it down a bit). However, check the face – whole face must be sharp (especially the eyes). If it´s not, again use smaller aperture (higher f number). Set ISO to 100 and let the camera calculate the exposure time. If it´s shorter than 1/100, increase ISO to make sure that the photo will be as sharp as possible (later when processing the photo in Photoshop or wahtever you use, sharpen them a bit, but not too much and don´t expect it to make a blurred or out of focus object sharp).
You can also use the flash to make their eyes shine a bit. Also be careful about composition and don´t cut objects, for example the hand in the first photo or sunglasses in the second.
PS: what exactly do you need to buy a Glock? As far as I know, the gun laws in Ireland are quite strict.
PS2: do you have their phone numbers? :DTigsMemberHi MMX…
Thanks so much for the help… i’ll defo try out the AV mode… can you explain something to me? i tried using the TV mode and was trying ouy differnt iso’s to get the right colour… it had a bluish tinge on it no matter what i did!!!! Do i have to change the white balance as well as the iso?
The reason i’m still using the amateur mode for stuff like this is i’m just confident enough though i’ll never get there if i don’t keep practising!!!
The Glock is not real…. sorry!!!!! It’s a pellet gun!!!!! ha ha ha
Both the girls are on facebook if you eh… want to use them in eh… something…MMXParticipantISO doesn´t affect the colors at all, increasing the ISO only increases the general sensitivity to light but doesn´t affect the individual channels.
However if you shoot into RAW, you can change it later Adobe Camera Raw or any other RAW editor.“i’ll never get there if i don’t keep practising”
Before you continue practicing I think you should read the manual, I´m pretty sure that everything you asked is explained there.
PS: The girls are beautiful but not beautiful enough to make me register on Facebook (it´s nothing personal, even my own gf wasn´t able to persuade me) – any other contact details?
TigsMemberHahaha… i have indeed read the manuals… they are very helpful…
I know the iso ia to do with the sensitivity etc however i simply cant work out the blue tinge… and my manual so soes not explain that!!!!although i have to say i was playing around with the iso while on tv mode and when i flicked back to amateur sports mode it had affected the lighting on that!!! Didn’t realise that would happen!!!
I have a few books and websites etc that i’ve been reading through… some of them seem like they are contradicting each other… mind you i am prob just picking it up wrong…
Hahahaha i have contact details however i’m not at liberty to divulge them!!!! Sorry!!!!
Thanks for the feedback!!!
MMXParticipantThe blue tinge is caused by incorrect white balance. If you shoot into RAW, you can change it here:
Your problem is that while in Sports mode the camera was probably using AWB (automatic white balance, not Afrikaner Weerstandsbeweging :D), in Tv mode it expected that you would set it up correctly while you didn´t.
However I have no idea where to set it up on Canon 1000D – on higher bodies such as 50D and above you simply press one button and change it with a wheel (on the top LCD display it shows small icons – sun, clouds, bulb, flash and so on).PS: Don´t be selfish,I know that you are jealous because I asked their phone numbers and not yours but the poor girls don´t know what they are missing… I promise that while I´ll be “using” them I will think of you
TigsMemberHahahahaha good things come to those that wait!!!!
Ah ha i knew knew knew it had something to do with the white balance… hence the earlier question!!!! ….. and you thought i didnt read the manual…. little did you know i’m actually stupid enough that i didn’t actually understand what the manual said!!!!!
Indeed i do believe you press a button and spin a little wheel hahaha right… good stuff… i’ll play around a bit more…By the way… thanks you is a legend!!!!
Excellent stuff!!!
MMXParticipantGood things are boring, I´m more into something nasty
And user manuals are usually written by men so it´s quite common problem that women don´t understand them.
TigsMembergood things can be wonderful!!! Nasty is good too…
See these manuals don’t make sense to women cos men like to over complicate things!!!!!
Hahahahahahaha!!!!!!!
