sorry to make a new thread i kn ow you guys probably hate it because so many new people probably do it ,but any i am new to photography i recently found a bit of a love for taking scenic pictures etc with my normal digital camera and really enjoy it but i would like to take it up a step with a better camera and but im not willing to spend a huge amount as its only a hobbies that i new to and not planning on spending all my money in it , i would like to pay about 400 for a camera or something at the same time i want something decent i know “you get what you pay for” but id like a camera just to take nice scenic photos and other photos to family etc .. if some one could name a few half decent ones worth buying . because the digital camera i have now is fairly good so i want to move up a notch
thanks
appreciate feedbackMMXParticipantOn eBay you can get an used Nikon D80 with 18-135mm lens for about $400-500, seems to be the best option.
fixedforfunParticipantthanks i was thinking about used or new kind of want new though mite be a bit snobby but i kinda do .. any good models for around 400?
MMXParticipantNew camera for €400? Only entry level bodies with the cheapest lens, nothing worth buying. Remember, “you´re not rich enough to buy cheap things”.
fixedforfunParticipantok thanks well i did say im new to this ,how much would i have to pay to get a decent camera for a beginner 450 500?any recommendations
thanksMMXParticipantA new one? Between 400-500 for the body, plus lens. Options are: Canon 450D and higher, Nikon D90 and higher, Pentax K200D or higher, no experience with Sony but their lenses are expensive anyway.
When buying lens, it depends what do you want to shoot, but in general I would avoid all cheap basic zooms (18-55), cheap telezooms (50-200) and ultrazooms (18-200).
Together it can cost about €600-800, if you want all the parts to be new. But as I always say; an old Mercedes will always be better than a new Volkswagen (if we compare in the same price level).StorytellerMemberSo MMX what sort of lens would you advise? Most cameras seem to come with the 18-55 option, Im looking at a Canan 400d 500d or 40d as a starter option but don’t want to have a good camera with an average lens.
BrennerParticipantI,m only a beginner myself, my son got me a canon 550D with 2 canon lens 18-55mm and 70-200mm is lens, uv filter and 2 Japans lens wide angle and a 2X telephoto lens. There is other bits and peace’s with it. thay payed just over 1000 euro all new.
Gone2themoonParticipantI know this is an old thread, but anyway.
This is just what I think….
If you wanna learn more about photo taking, i wouldnt be looking for the latest and greatest gear just yet.
There are many types of photography and each one will have a better suited camera and lens combination.
As you get more into it you’ll learn just what type you are and you’ll know just what type of lens is good in each situation and even which camera is better.
You might want to stick to indoor shots of the family, well then a longer zoom lens is outta the question, unless you live in a big house!
I started with a Canon 20d, ( can be got for €250 second hand with a cheapy 18-55mm kit lens) its a DSLR with Some nice Auto settings but also does Manual Settings for when you want to get creative. Match this to a 50mm f1.8, ( €120ish in ARGOS!) and you’ve got some change left outta 400 for some memory cards or a Bag.
I’m not telling you to go out tomorrow and buy a canon 20d and a 50mm f1.8, I’m just trying to give an example of what things are to be had second hand. Which will give you some great results.
Do some research, watch a few auctions on ebay to get to know prices.
If you wanna know anything else post it here, chances are that someone else has done it.
