Just bought my very first DSLR today, a D90 with 18-105 lens. 8) It’s a major jump from my wee Fuji S9600 and will take a long time to get used to but totally over the moon with it so far.

The first issue is how do I go about getting this stupid grin off my face ?

Congratulations on the new arrival Jonny, you will find it a very easy camera
to get used to, dont be afraid to try all the buttons and switches and keep the
manual with you for the first few weeks. As for the grin, well that will get
bigger and bigger when the shots start appearing :)

Cheers. Just plan to concentrate on a few things at a time until I get used to it. At least that way I should avoid brain overload.

Congrats Jonny, I myself went for the D5000 and it arrived today, we could have a big grin competition.

You’ve most probably stumbled on the following, but if not then lots of good advice here:

    All the best.

Cheers for the link very useful. I also got a copy of the D90 magic lantern dvd which I’m finding a great help.

As for a competition I think you might win. Due to this being day 2 of my grin, cheek cramp in now setting in and I’m now starting to resemble something from Wallace and Gromit.

The wife is also getting pissed off with me being so happy.

P.S. good luck with the D5000. It was a close call for me between the 2 cameras.

Don´t be afraid of all the buttons, you don´t have to use them all :)
DSLRs are much more simple than people think, if you read the manual it will take you 3-4 days to get used to it.
All the things you really need to know is relationship between aperture number, exposure time and ISO and what influences DOF.
